been thinking about getting a towing dolly. is it illegal for me to tow a car on a dolly with my 1.2 clio? ino it would struggle the engine but it wouldnt be to often
its only legal to recover a car on a dolly and not to transport it. but the law goes much much deeper and i cant be arsed to go into it. best to google it as there is tons of info on a-frames and dollys, not to mention the headfuk that is legal towing weights and licences.
It depends really on the size of vehicle you intend to tow and the size/weight of the dolly.
As Daniel says your clutch will be the main sufferer tbh, but as long as your kind to it i dont really see much of a problem, Ive towed 2.5 tonne trucks with my old 1.1 Punto with no problems!
basicaly i break cars. Little 106s and saxos and it would be alot easier if i could just go and pick new 1s up. Instead of paying 2 have them picked up
if you get a trailer you will need a licence to tow unless you passed your test before X date cant remember what it is now.
then you have to deal with the towing weights, weight of your car, plus trailer weight then whats going on the trailer, its a huge can of worms. normally means big car like a 4x4 and a trailer can tow as long as you have a towing licence but check the towing weights, all the info is on the direct.gov website on towing laws.
I disagree with the 1.2 stuggling to tow another car, it wouldn't be fast but then you can't tow at high speed, I personally would be more worried about stopping with that weight on.
A 1.2 would be fine pulling a trailer, but I would imagine (as said above) it will be the weights that f**ks you!!!
From what I remember its if you passed in 2001 onwards you can only drive a total of 3000kg ish. Providing you abide by the correct vehicle weights. It can be a b**ch to work out sometimes!! Before 2001 you can pull drive what ever you want.(well up to 7.5 tonnes)
If you get a tractor you could pull like 10-16 tonnes with your licence
Didn't realise you couldn't tow with an RS? Why not?
if you passed your test after 1997 you cant tow unless you have done your b+e, and if you passed before 1997 there is still a weight restriction but cant remember what it is and most people dont realise, i did my b+e about two years ago, cost about £800.00, and i wouldnt tow with a clio personally but its your car, license, money etc
