Track Car Detail

With our first trackday of the year booked for august it was time to bring the car home from storage for some work and a good clean. The car had been stored (outside on a farm) since September last year so as you can imagine it was pretty filthy. The plan was to get it done over a few days and bring some colour back into the faded red paint as I did when we first purchased the car.

Some shots of how it was once we got it home

Wash stages were as followed -

Foamed with Valet Pro Foam
Really dirty areas, around windows/badges etc taken acre of with CP Rapid Dirt Shifter
2BM with AF Imperial

Tardis and Iron-x used to removed most of the tar etc before claying.

Next the car was taped up and ready for polishing. Wasn't really seeking any kind of correction as the car is only to be used on track, main point was to bring it back red again and add some gloss. Therefor I didn't want to go using all my good polish on it and opted for Meguiars Ultimate Compound/Polish combo.

Some intricate taping up required on the bonnet pins.

Brilliant job, best part for me was the clay bar (sad I know). That's how it should look after use, not like some of the examples that pro's show off.

Nice turn around .. however, looks like you've got about 200g of clay there when really you need 1/4 of that if that !!!

For future use - use smaller bits. If you drop a small bit, no big deal. If you drop £15 worth of clay and you've got nothing left to finish the car off ....

Didn't realise legs ultimate compound was that abrabrasive

results are epic!

It has given good results the few times I've used it. The 50/50's with the sun gun were on the not so faded side and were achieved using just the Ultimate Polish on a light polishing pad.

Thanks. I think it was 100g of clay just very flattened by the end but I shall use less in future as it would be a disaster if dropped as you say :)
