Track day brake pads for Mk 172

So, whats the verdict - std Renault, Carbon Metallic (from Performance Friction), or Pagid RS (as featured on K-Tecs web site)?

Not sure it would make much difference. Sure the pads have different characteristics, but when the fluid overheats none of them will work anyway. Really need to uprate the brake fluid - the brakes themselves are fine.

Clios have dot 4 as standard so youll be ok. I wouldnt get anything too major without uprating discs too, isnt greenstuff supposed to be good?

If this is for Bedford expect about 4 hot laps then look out - the performance falls away really quickly (your tyres are sh*gged by then anyway). Other tracks vary - can do at least 10 in a session at Donington for example as its much less demanding on brakes and tyres.

I run standard pagids and braided hoses. kept the dot 4 for now and im very happy with performance on track.

Not tried the Greenstuff on a Clio but I can tell you they grip like stink, but generate a lot of dust and wear out pretty fast. That was on my 205...I now have GroupN discs and matching pads and they are a huge improvement in both braking feel and lifespan....

I used Red Dot fast road pads on my last track day. The pads worked fine but the discs can´t handle the same punishment. If i had used Red Dot competion i would probably warp the discs IMHO. Friction always generate heat....

Most so-called warped discs are just the result of pad material bonding to the disc. My Willy had this problem with the stock Renault pads but not at all with Ferodo DS 2000 pads. The stock pads were good for about a day at the ring but the Ferodos go forever.

Ferodos DS2500 are excellent . demon tweeks have them and we get a discount

Either Mintex M1144s, Ferrodo DS2000s or Pagids are what you want...

Ive run all 3 of these on track and they work!



Just make sure you get some uprated brake fluid though, as the higher temps the brakes now get too can cook the standard stuff!

I used Mintex C-Tech and so did my mate in his EvoVI, so if he couldnt boil it (turned red Brembos brown though) then a Clio will be fine!
