Track Rod Ends

  Black 182 FF
Just picked two new track rod ends up from GSF and there's a grease nipple in the packaging of both.

Does the grease nipple need to be attached and the joint greased, surely it comes already done? Or is it just so it can be maintained over the years?

Never bought any track rod ends for years, but it's a while since I've seen owt like this - normally they're just sealed units now aren't they?

They're not right, you need to get them swapped for the ones that don't come with the nipples.

Part numbers 436re017 and 436re021.

We have plenty of the correct stock at Bham if Donny branch haven't got them.

The part numbers on the box are 436RE0210 and 436RE0170 - are these basically the ones you're talking about?

Yes, but the same supplier had two batches of stock. One new and one old. You've got the old type there.

Get the branch to ring Elliot @ Bham Monday if they need help with it.

I've just put one on and they fit. Is there any real difference between them?

And do they need filling with grease?

Not really, they're just a different shape and the people I deal with prefer to fit the newer style one's with out the nipple.

As for the grease, I'm not sure.

I'm not so bothered about the nipples, dont mind actually greasing them. Job done now, but it's not cured the low speed/parking knock anyway! Have to get someone to have a look at it.

They are making the creaking noise after previously using the washer fix to quieten them so it's possible, but the knock is generally replicated when turning one direction, then the other at very low speeds/stationary and seems more central.

running coilovers? could be the spring moving on the seat

I get this on KTR coilies & topmounts. Is there anything to stop that "twang"

grease where the springs contact with the seats/adjusters. Some brands have a plastic/PTFE or similar ring/gasket that stops any binding
