Tracking/4 wheel alignment

Please can someone tell me what the difference is .. :S

Just had my standard springs put back on and wondered if tracking will do or do I need 4 wheel alignment ..

Cheers :D

  1.6 focus zetec....
Hmm tricky one.... :p

I think 4 wheel alignment makes sure all the wheels are in-line with one another and tracking adjusts all the camber etc...

I had the rear wishbone changed in the focus and had to have all the tracking done iirc!! Got a picture of the cars wheels and suspension with different percentages etc!!

I usually have it 4 wheel laser aligned at tweeks but wondered if tracking is just as good at a local garage as I want it done for Oulton on Saturday and not sure I will have time to get donw there ..

Anyone know please ?

Why have you put the standards back on? Im thinking of changing to uprated springs. Is it worth it?

Tracking is generally only front wheels. Not everywhere has equipment to do 4 wheel alignment. It is different. I used Northampton Motorsport when I got my coilovers and they dialled in ecerything as best they could.

4 wheel laser alignment is where u take measurement from front wheels to back wheels and across the front but u only adjust the front u need the tracking setting on the front (ie 2 with a plus or minus tolerence) and the lasers need to be on the same numbers on the back flags for the job to be done properly... some places just do the measurement across the front which can put the steering wheel off centre.

to keep it simple (or not;) ) ; Camber and Caster can't be adjusted on these cars.... (that is unless you have put on these camber adjustment-bolts which are for sale, Ktec for example.)

So you'll have to do with a good alignement.

Northampton Motorosport managed to adjust my rears as from factory or a previous owner the rears had more toe in (I think) one side to the other.

Unless that couldn't be adjusted and they had to compensate at the front.

Either way good set up is well worth it and usually on decent equipment which costs.

i take mine to tweeks, no problem. You can't adjust the rear on the road car.

camber can be changed, rick wood is doing mine asap, as ones top in and ones top out, handles like crap

camber can only be changed with certain coilovers, or correction bolts. Standard set ups can't be changed ;)

you tell her! lol

had my old car fully setup on coilovers and it made a massive difference, however my un-coilovered 172 made do with a £20 4 wheel tracking at the local garage.

You cant allign the rears, so dont get blagged into paying for that service.

up to you tbh, if your getting rid, random cheap garage lol, if its being kept maybe tweeks, as you do get the before/after print out for you records?

If anything is out on the back, its bent! But i think its only the toe that is actually adjustable on the fronts maybe...
