we have a 51 plate 172 and was just wondering if traction control is standard or not ?

No it was introduced to 172 from July 2002 onwards.

many thanks any ideas on my other problem ? i changed the spark plugs the weekend and now she wants to cut out when its warm should i have changed the inlet manifold gaskets as well ?
