Transmission wear and tear

I'm looking into getting a remap (MK3 1.2TCE), however the standard clutch/gearbox doesn't feel too strong. How does a gearbox actually wear? Apart from crunching and slamming it into gear? I'm just wondering how I would treat the gearbox better with more power running through it,
to prolong its life? Sorry for sounding like a r****d!

All help would be much appreciated

The gearbox just feels flimsy...like the rest of the car! You do realise I own a Renault

IMO Renault gearbox's always feel like they're going to break. None of mine ever have though. They always seem very "loose"

I guess I'm just worrying, its a 2 year old car and I won't wanna break anything from remapping it. Just want to understand what extra strain I'd be putting through the car with an extra 25BHP & 35 ft/lb.

ive the same concern about my supposedly stronger gearbox ive crunched mine a few times at the moment first seems hard to find somedays it feels loose other days its more positive

Ya should be fine its only when your doing heavy tuning that ya may get problems just dont strain it all the time choose the correct gear for engine speed and ta cant go far wrong

They wear through use over time like anything else, there are RS' on here with 100K+ on them still on the original box and clutch and are fine, depends how you treat it.

Rushing the box is the biggest killer of them i.e trying to do second gear wheel spins etc.

Being really ham fisted with upshifts and not rev matching on hard driving downshifts will usually kill the box.
Being smooth and precise is the key to prolong the life.
Heel and toe is pretty much essential when track or 'fast road' driving......not that anyone on here does drive fast on road of course....its much frowned upon.

I'd also avoid burning away off the lights in the dry with R888's fitted....

just be careful if you take it in for any warranty work because if renault find out its remapped they will void whats left on the warranty, or certainly anything to do with engine trouble.
