Just arrived home from my first ever trax day and I had an absolute blast, and met some really awesome guys.
Took the Clio out onto the track and WOW , the car handles like a dream. Its almost like it was designed to be driven around the track.
By the end of the days I was staying with a certain porsche 911,who unfortunately I couldnt find the owner of after the session as I would have loved to know how hard he was pushing it. At the end of the day I was lapping in the 1:23s (If you look at the 172 Topcar article on this site youll see that a top professional driver was doing 1:19:38) so Im pretty chuffed with myself.
There was another Titanium silver mk1 Clio 172 there and we shared a scary moment when he spun on the hairpin with me following close behind him...Not a nice site when the guy youre following is sitting looking at you out of his front windscreen , other than that I think the 205/45 16" rubber really helps with grip, and I had great fun playing with the lift-off oversteer of the car which comes in really handy when cornering slightly too fast.
I could also feel my track times improving as at the beginning of the day I was in 3rd for the whole of the back straight and up to the top of the hill. By the end of the day I was changing into 4th half way up the back straight.
I also had a few times where I pushed the car a little too hard and and a tricky time trying keep the car pointing forwards in the dirt after the tight left hander before the main straight (which can be a little tricky but serious fun too).
Pics hopfully to follow on monday
