Trip Computer Keeps Resetting

Anyone had this one?

Over the past few weeks and only intermittedly, when i come to start the car the trip computer (mpg, trip miles, average speed etc) resets itself back to zero.

Now one other thing i have noticed is that on the occasions it has done this i have noticed the fuel needle drop to zero when i turn the key to start the engine and then spring back up again once its running so i've kinda figured that the dash must be losing power as the starter is turning over the engine.

Done a voltage check on the battery and it read REPLACE so im thinking its the battery coming to the end of its 4 year life....nearly 4 years to the day of the car being born so guessing it could be this..

Anyone else had this malady?

Just read it....very well put!

Didn't take a lot of thought to narrow down that it was resetting due to lack of power..hence the fuel needle dropping.
Thinking it thru more i also realised that after longer journeys it was ok for a few days and then after doing only short journeys the problem kept coming back.

Funny how the most simple answers get overlooked isn't it?
