Trip Computer problems and other electric Faults

Hi all,

Right I wonder if anyone can help before I take my car into a garage to get it seen to.

Here goes, when i start my car up all the gauges etc pop up nice and everything and then when i turn the key to start her they all go back down then back up and in turn resets the MPG average speed milage etc... so annoying, it doesnt do it every time but getting more and more regular.

Also on time to time the radio just cuts out for about 10 seconds then comes back on?

Also the steering wheel radio control thing doesnt work from time to time?

I think they all must be linked as all these problems have started at the same time?

Also finally when i was driving in the wet the other day at around 70mph the speedo just shot up to 160, but when i pressed the radio/clock display it went back to normal, (also the display freezes on time to time).

Im not sure if all this has happened because a bit of water has got into the system or if you fella can help.

Any advice would be mst helpful before i go spending money on her i cant really afford 'credit crunch and all'

hello mate

im having the same problem with my missus' clio 172

the speedo stops working but we know thats the speed sensor as we have already looked into it

however, i noticed that every few days the trip meter etc all resets - very annoying

we have a peugeot 306 in work recently with a similar fault - the trip meter reset every time you turned the ignition off. turned out to be an ECU fault which was caused by a bad earth to the gearbox. The broken earth wire had caused numerous faults including runnign problems which all went back to the ECU and caused damage hence causing running problems.

Im hoping that this is not the case with our clio, but the idle is rough and there are no air leaks or ignition problems which could point towards and ECU fault similar to that of a megane i looked at recently.

anyway, im looking into the same problems at the moment and desperately trying to find the answer. When i do i will let you know!

First problem is going to be the battery or a bad commection on the battery i'd bet battery is on its way out new one sorts it.

As for the speedo its the gearbox speedo sensor its on the back of the gearbox check its ok if it acts up again most lilt need cleaning up connections etc or a new one only cheap though and easy enough to change.

stearing wheel controls just check the loom for fraids etc

Bettery IMo is the first point to check.

Sounds like a battery issue, get it checked! free from halfords!
