Trophy Questions

So, my car is up for sale and im after a RS.

I have a few 182's with cup packs that i like the look of, but i have spotted 2 Trophy's that are going for arround £5800-£6000 ish. Would this be the normal kind of price for a trophy these days?

Also, i know there are only 500 of them, but how often are they coming up for sale? I have been looking a few months and have probably seen 4 in that time, one of which was way over £6k

I have £6k to spend, so im thinking why not get a trophy?

Links to said trophys?

Dampers will be the talking point (i.e they need done after 45-50k miles etc)

Such good value for money, if you can knock price down to factor in damper refurb you'd have a bargain!!

Whats wrong with it?
main thing i look for when it comes to 182s 'with mileage' so to speak is the belt changes, so with the trophy in question, the belt change and damper refurb...

i did say probably though, so its possible that the above has been done, but its at the bottom of the pile for a reason.

Only buy a Trophy if you have ~£1k to maintain it over the next 12months (dampers+Belts). They might not need doing, but worth planning for the worst imo.

Or spend a bit more on one that's had those bits done.

For me, mileage means nothing if its been cherished religiously.
this will inevitably include maintenance i.e. belt changes and the damper refurb.

nby's trophy was cherished religiously and wasnt as bad of a buy as most would imagine.

Splitter and damper rebuild so add half a bag of sand + to get just those sorted.

Have a quick look at the damper res to see if you have a 10mm gap, if you aint got the gap , the damper has lost its pressure,The grey outer sleeve/tube of the remote reservoir moves up and down, according to the amount of gas pressure inside. It doesn't look as if it should move but it does.

The valve for adding the gas is at the bottom of this remote reservoir so if the pressure is increased the whole reservoir is forced down. When the pressure is reduced the remote reservoir moves upwards. When the pressure drops to zero, the remote reservoir comes to rest against the horizontal bracket holding it to the main damper.

This means it's a very easy visual check to see if your damper has lost its gas pressure, once you know what to look for. Basically, if the outer sleeve is resting against the horizontal bracket it's time for a rebuild.

You see loads of 05/55 plate Clio 182's and a few V6's coming up for sale now, owners don't want to fork out for the belt change.

If you have 6k you realistically are stretching yourself to find a trophy, theres always an element of luck when picking a 'cheaper' car based on slightly higher mileage as the 'risk' of components needing to be replaced is higher- of course the same risk applies for a lower mileage car however it would be lower-

In this market 6k will get you a choice of all the range & all the colours except a trophy or Liquid yellow-- that colour is now out pricing most trophies-

If your desperate for a trophy save up up another few hundred quid, get the lowest mileage one you can - if the belts arent done budget for £500 all in-

1 months MOT... pfft - it's a £6300 car... why don't people just stick 12 months on it to sell... obviously expecting it to need something.
