Tuning the 172

  2005 Audi A3 3.2 Quattro

I think Tom was onto something with his improving the 172 post.

Id like to follow on from that a little.

As far as tuning a 172 goes there are a few area for improvement

1. Remove Unwanted Weight

2. Better & Lighter Wheels And Tyres

3. Uprated Suspension

4. Modify Suspension Geometry

5. Aftermarket Performance Exhaust System (A.P.E.S...lol:D...sorry couldnt resist)

6. Aftermarket Airfilter or IK

7. Aftermarket ECU

8. NOS

9. Individual Throttle Bodies

Ive tried to order these in the order that most people would do the mods in.

What Im after from you lot is, in each category, what make, model of improvement, would you consider for your car if your aim was to produce a high performance 172

well we will see what a good exhaust does for the 172 when i get mine put on when the factory starts production again in september

Guess we gotta wait for Roamer then...damn its taking a long time

As for me

1. Chuck out rear seats, spare wheel

2. I guess the orginal Mk1 OZ are pretty good along with the Michelins but my 16" with Toyo Proxes 205/45 are doing very nicely thanks

3. Bilstein would be awesome but Eibach would be nice

4. Not really available to me as Im not in the UK and dont know the settings

5. Magnex Decat seems to be the way to go, but Id love a Remus system (pity about the price)

6. whats the point if you go for 9.

7. Id go with Dastek Unichip

8. Might be nice for that added bit of boost when needed

9. ROAMER!!!!! HURRY UP!

NOS... nice but it doesnt last long..

Throttle boddies, well we will see what its like once roamer is finished.

IK - your gonna loose power

Sealed IK - not much increase if any.

ECU - Not much again, just to fix fueling really.

Exhaust - Not that much again.. apparently the manifold is really good as it is.

Suspension - ye it could do with a bit of work

Weight - allways helps to bring it down. but your gonna have to loose a lot to make a noticable difference.

well my supersprint race exhaust system should see more of an improvement than most exhausts and should sound evil hehehehehehehehe

No point in doing 7, cos with the throttle bodies youve got to get a new fully mappable ecu anyway........ and the ecu work is starting now....... still got issues to get around, but its happening guys :D

Oh, and remember the two most important ones......

Put yourself on a diet

and......

Learn how to drive, learn the best gearchange points etc etc etc

Woooo

Yeah the Airbags, instruments, aircon, lights, wipers, heaters, brakes(i think) all need to work too its great having a 225bhp car but if it dont have any of those its kinda pointless

Goodluck

(if you need someone to point and shout NOOOO!! when your doing the ecu, im free)
