Turbo Clio by KTEC preferably

  2003 Clio 172
Here is what my 300bhp full trimmed road car with full glass, rear seats and a radio etc does to a 200 on track:

And yes he was trying, there is another thread on here where has posted footage from his car.

Full session video:

300bhp in a clio is VERY effective as a trackday car, I really think people need to go in a properly setup one (of which there are very very few) before they start chasing more power than that. Getting PROPER control of the power and getting a decent controllable spread of torque is so much more important than the peak figure.
More power in mine would make me no quicker in the bends, no quicker out of the bends, no quicker at the start of the straights, no quicker at the end of the straights under braking (ie all the exciting bits of the track) so only place it would make me slightly quicker is the middle of the straights where TBH Im already doing 150mph so is there really much point? All it does is make the brakes work even harder which means I wouldnt be able to run 15ss anymore and would start making me slower on the corners I suspect.

I take it that silver one is a turbo too?

he doesn't do too bad compared to your brute for a while

No thats Mike at MWM in his old ITB and 438 cams one, but I was on a cool down lap and had turned the camera off etc, then we spotted him on the straight as we went round the hammerhead so I thought I would go and follow him for a lap (his dad was in my car) so turned the cameras back on, then after a lap or so following at part throttle I just opened it a bit more and breezed past him on the straight to get a little more speed up to cool my brakes better, but then spotted some other cars and figured as it was now cooled down anyway I'd go and have another play even though we had already been out about half an hour that session, think by the end it was the longest session I have ever done, lol
My car is WAY quicker than his was, but I wasnt trying to pass him to begin with, I was just following him.

Ahh right.......and he himself was chewing through regular Clios

:D

Yeah Mike@MWM (438s and ITBs) and Dan@SJM (197 cams and RS2) were really evenly matched against each other but much quicker than most of the other clios there so were having some really epic battles but they were both sadly too slow for me to play with for long without me getting bored, lol

From what i could see/hear from the pits, chips turbo on the straights was awesome, ive got a video on my iphone of him flooring it after the 1st corner and it sounds the business!!

Im sure there were a few cars there quicker than me, but if there were I didnt actually meet them, I think that other than on cool down laps I literally didnt get overtaken all day (other than a couple of times when I had boost hoses pop off and slowed down, must get them swaged!)

The marshal did say to mike and I that we were very loud when we were together lol

That Turbo on ebay is still there, is it not a case of remapping it? Apologies for any daft questions originating from my proximity.. #Clueless
Surely with all the stuff in it, you can tweak it and get something decent at a fraction of the usual cost?

  WRX
Perhaps but it's a gamble that if it's already been used with a dodgy map then damage could have already been done.

Well the one I bought was misfiring as a result of the compression, but yes a compression test will help if there was a issue, but it won't tell you what's going to happen in the future.

RAC inspection?? Will that give you guarantees?

FLOL, they won't have a clue as there book will say its not a turbod car....

Just don't bother, take that from me and other people that have had the same experiences. Walk away from it now.

Buy it if you have some spare budget to fix it.
Take it to someone decent to map it, then see if its ok or not, if its not then spend some money fixing it, if it is then great youve got a cheap car.

Just do it eyes wide open, oh and FLOL @ an rac inspection

Thats what I was thinking, whats worst case scenario? I recall a mate buying RS Turbo and RAC paid for all sort of repairs after giving it a clean bill of health as he took it to Ford and they found all sorts of faults.. I need to find a good specialist in my vicinity...

Worst likely case is probably only pistons are knackered including scoring the bores, and the turbo damaged.

If you pay labour to fix thats probably 3-4K done to a decent standard depending on the details.

Many things will definately be ok.

Driven that and i seen the car before it was a turbo, during it being made into a turbo and the finished product and i pity the next person that owns it.
Its had the hole booted out of it in everyway and it has also had a ding in the rear 1/4 thats been repaired when a car revered into it at Renault

Standard JC5 box with standard driveshafts when the original owner built it.

He sold it down south and bought a Audi RS4

I've just bought this as a long term project. Great starting point, I'll stick a thread up with my plans etc after I get back from the marham track day this weekend.
