Turbo problem

Hi all, I have a Ktech turbo conversion fitted to my 182, and there seems to be a problem with it misfiring and running rough. I have found that the actuator on the turbo that feeds the dump valve is pulling a vac constantly and may be stuck? Could this be some kind of common fault with the actuator or map sensor? I have changed the spark plugs for the correct type which helped slightly but im thinking maybe the problem may lie with the actator??? I'm going to phone ketch and ask for their advice 2moro...

Any help appreciated thanks, Mike

id try ringing them to start with, unless your actually driving the actuator will always be pulling the wastegate closed. plus the actuator wouldnt cause a missfire evenif the pipe work to it has a leak.

when did it start, when does it do it?

The actuator shouldnt be linked to your dump valve!!

The dump valve should have its own vacume off the manifold.

Id check the plug gap if its misrifing under load ( blown the spark ) wgat colour were the plugs on removal?? Black whute etc.

Coil pack could also be your issue.

The actuator can be tested, remove the pin and pop off the clip see if it moves in and out freely.

Mike, is this a low boost set up on standard compression ratio? Or a high boost low compression set up?

Also are you using the stock ECU or a stand alone?

Disconnect boost pipe from inlet manifold (cancelling out turbo conversion) does it still misfire? Plugs, leads, coil pack or injector could be faulty failing all of above maybe carry out compression test.

Unsure why this would make any difference to it misfiring?? I wouldnt suggest removing pipe work and then going for a drive, could and will alter afrs And could cause the car to drive lean!!

Immconcerned your actu is linked to your dumpvalve!!!!

get some verry soapy water and put it around the joints of the intercoler and pipes to see if thers a leak faling that check the gapping on your plugs for the correct gap. may be being blown out under boost. other than that it could be your fueling or even timing. take it to a specialist and have it looked at. if you have a dump valve ditch it there crap and just another plase to have a boost leak

I agree re the plugs, but a boost leak here isnt the issue and defo wont cause a misfire! These cars dont run a maf, just a map, he has to run a bov of some type as rdv or his turbo will die.

Great ideas on the system test tho, but untill the car is on boost you wont see any leaks as it will have a negative vacume and getting a car to load up by revi g it wont create much pressure, great ideas tho :)

The more i read this the more it sounds like a metled piston!!! Remove your oil cap on idle soo what sorta pressure you have or if you have smoke out of it

:S solved the boost leak on my 200sx by doing it on idle / reving. as for destroying the turbo does depend what the turbine itself is made of and what type of bearings. dv could be fuged tho and constantly leaking boost if it a crap one thats why i never ran one.

What people are failing to realise is that this car left the factory without a turbo, removing boost pipe and stopping boost entering the engine turns it into a rich running f4r, if mine developed a misfire I wouldnt blame the turbo conversion, there are still basics to be checked, if where going down the melted/holed piston route then a compression test will provide the answer.
