Turbo Vs Super

just out of interest which one has the advantage? surely a supercharger would wen the cars at lower revs because it doesnt rely on the exhaust?

both have advatages , yes supercharger is allwas working but doesnt normally give a higher bhp at max.

If u look at the super charger on the astin martin that needs somet like 150bhp just to work the supercharger, but will give more back in return

Or i think the new bmw has 2 turbos 1 small that kicks in at low revs , and then switchs to a big turbo at higher revs. theres also some sill low litre 1.* thats going down this route as welll

You seen the new golf GT engine that have a supercharger and turbo fitted, there 1.4lt that produce 168bhp.

Both as said have there benefits and different cars use both ie Jags/ Mercdes and Minis use superchargers. Diesels and the Megans use turbos.

With modern turbos being so efficient with variable valves superchrages may be used less and less.

superchargers run out of puff at higher revs and your buring more fuel to run the thing
turbos dont work at lower revs but give you one hell of a kick at higher revs!

yup remember that, but the new golf is very interesting, has a "clutch" that isengages the charger once the turbom has kicked in.

super and turbo charged is the way forward for forced incuction

supercharge good for v8 and over,turbo is good ,if you using small block.
