Clio 182
So I finally managed to convince myself to buy a turbo for my 182!
As I am not one to shy away from a challenge, I decided to take on the task of fitting it myself it to save a few quid.
I decided to change my clutch at the same time seeing as the subframe would be off the car it seemed like a good idea to do it at the same time.
I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures below of the process to fitting the turbo and some of the most nerve racking jobs i've had to do on my pride and joy!
This is how the car started off
Next was subframe off to remove the manifold and allow room to drop the gearbox.
Engine mount and gearbox mount off ready for the gearbox to come off. Inlet and manifold are both off at this point to make access to gearbox easier and to prepare for the turbo to be fitted.
Another shot of the car in pieces while undoing the gearbox.
Gearbox off, now it's ready for a new clutch!
New clutch in and attempting to hold the gearbox up to line it up by myself while laying on the floor. Definitely not my idea of fun!
Drilling the 15mm hole in the engine through the sump for the oil drain feed from the turbo! this was definitely the scariest thing I have ever done, one wrong move and that would be the end of this engine case!
Oil feed and fuel injectors put on. Intercooler and boost pipes now going on also, Its finally starting to look like a car again!
Turbo was then fitted with the downpipe, subframe was then put back on and driveshafts and suspension components reconnected. To finish off the new ECU was fitted by drilling a 20mm hole through the firewall for the wiring and then it was just a case of cutting the correct wires and soldering in the new ECU. finally Inlet is returned and pipe work connected and last but not least the moment of truth! turning the key for the first time and she fires into life! this was a great moment for me knowing not only did i save nearly £1000 in labour but also to know I managed this task all on my own with no help from anyone!
After driving the car i would strongly recommend this conversion to anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their clio, it truly has transformed the car and I am glad I finally made the decision to do it!
