what are the differences between all these new types of TV ?........ok so there not that new, but newer than the one we have

like LCD, Plasma, etc etc etc

ive noticed in shops and in peoples homes, with some of them unless your looking directly at it, then you cant see the picture properly as it kind of glazes over/dissappears ?

my dads looking at getting us a new one but he keeps getting put off cos when he goes in the shops the picture on some isnt that good and as mentioned you have to view it from directly in front or you get a crap picture

the glase u see isnt usually down to the type of screen thats to do with how the manufacturer does the last coat on out side , e.g if its proper smooth n shiney its usually bad in sun light , but if when switched off it looks a sort of matt black its generally better.

and if yer refering to the viewable angle there all different , best of testing a few n see which u prefer

Plasmas generally have better viewing angles. I have a panasonic 42PX60b plasma which is awesome!

plasmas tend to show blacks better, but can suffer from screen burn.

Its worth noting that all plasmas/LCDs are setup really badly in shops, to make them brighter. If you mess with the picture settings it can be improved 100%

Check out www.avforums.com as almost everything, including where to buy cheapest is covered there.

Also worth trying a pricematch with John Lewis, as they often beat other prices and offer a free 5 year warranty on all TV's.

Philips are apparently quite unreliable so would avoid. SOny apparently now make the best LCD. Always liked Pioneer and Panasonic for Plasma. Not sure which I am going for but new house purchase is 1st and then will see what's best and what will fit, then.
