Twingo 133 - im in love

Just picked this up for my mrs,
19944511_10207432365447739_1874275138815063981_o.jpg

ive always wrote them off as just not having enough power to be fun, my old tuned Twingo GT used to eat them for breakfast in a straight line, but this thing has really got under my skin, so much so she has driven it once and taken my DCi Dynamique S Clio to work every day for the week.

I am genuinely tempted to find her something else, sell on the trophy and just keep this as my toy. what a chassis! and because of its modest 133hp you cant take it out, drive like a loon and break the speed limit less of the time than you would in a hot clio or something faster. The chassis is razor sharp, as far as I know its a very similar setup to the 182 but the 17" wheels with lower profile tyres make it turn in so sharp, yet it doesn't tram line and behave like a clio on 17"s, 280mm brakes like the 182 with a little less weight and less power means the breaking power is fantastic!

No mods planned other than an RS Tuner map to free up the mid range a little and smooth out the cold start behaviour (it basically acts like a mini 2.0 Clio!)

  dan's cast offs.
the 17" wheels ruin them!! get it on 16" and some decent tyres. my lad has got his on td 1.2 and ad08r, h&r springs and pms top mounts and brace (mounts and brace make a huge difference!!)

ktec decat manifold, gt perfomance exhaust, clio phase 1 airbox and maped at efi so genuine figures

whatch out on the facebook pages (seen it on there) most of them are dumb kids who think they know absolutely everything :tonguewink:

red is car as standard, black mapped. they don't make 133bhp stock.

133PS? Renaults favourite trick?

Nice little thing, they look awesome in red!

I've always liked these.
I'd have to stick a 197 wheel in it though, the standard one makes me sick.

This is probably the only small Renault I'd buy, other than a Mk1 or Mk2 Clio - I like small cars and there are few genuinely small cars nowadays, other than the Fiat 500, and this is definitely on my list of things I want to drive/own.

Wish they'd come down in price a bit more, though - surely they're due to go through the <£1k stage soon, dammit.

I got one of these for my second car and it went back after one month. Loved the car but broke down about 5 times and then took a braking fault and locked the front brake on

My brother ran one, brilliant things. The ride quality is the only downside.
yeah the ride is pretty stiff, I don't find it too bad though, road noise is bad though! makes her old Dynamique DCi feel like a Rolls Royce lol

Great cars. I loved mine.
Perfect little dailies. Watch the wheels though, they're laughably easy to curb.
So I see! this one is due a wheel refurb but I'm not doing it yet due to her track record lol!

Good power there, no desire to modify this one though! just the RSTuner to make it behave when cold and give a little more mid range torque!

Awesome little cars

Whats the trophy price..... Pm me
be a while before I decide what I'm doing with it, need to get its belts done this autumn first too.

heard this alot about them, could it be because it's stiffer, thus have better turn in, feel more frantic etc?
The turn in is fantastic on them, feels sharper and tighter than a 172/182 but again probably the 17s and mega low profile tyres I think its 195/40/17 that's on it! I think I might move it over to 195/45 at some point to try and kill some road noise.

I've always liked these.

it might end up with a 197 wheel as she will just destroy the nicely retrimmed standard one which will probably be worth good money as its not long done!

definitely worth a look, as ive said I had wrote them off as too little power/torque to really have fun in but its the complete opposite. the prices have been quite stable the last few years but as with the clio the £500 odd cambelt change helps drive them down!

I'd quite happily run one as my daily, how much do they go for these days big stuff?

I think rougher ones start around £2000, this one was £3.5k but is low miles at 50k with full history and belts done. im sure you will get a poke round about it at some point when ive got it out! just need to shift her DCi now as shes not doing miles anymore.

I had a twingo 1.2, used to annoy me that could feel the steering column turning on my toes when I depress the clutch, are these the same?

Brilliant. I love these.

The ph1s are so much nicer looking than the ph2 with the nasty reading glasses and stupid rear lights.

Lol at the flat spot on the dyno graph. Just like a clio haha

It's the same in my 206 and my Mrs's Mini.

Think this is the case in a lot of cars.

massive fan i keep looking for a cherished facelift with climate & sunroof 😌
if its the same setup on the facelift as the pre facelift then I had a sunroof in my GT and I would NEVER have another it used to rattle rattle rattle constantly and I couldn't find out where it was coming from, forum was full of complaints too. Climate is nice though!

They are cool little cars, great for our roads.
yeah 100% its a hoot

cant say ive noticed it but it will be the same setup so id imagine so!

it feels just like a mini F4R, drives the same, similar noise, same flat spot, same power delivery, same cold start behaviour lol

I really like these, although I'd still rather have an Ignis because they're cheaper and not French lol. Good choice though, I like it!

These must be so similar to my little Lupo, I think they weight about 50kgs more but have the same power.

I very nearly bought a new facelift from renault, typical problem though of not being allowed a test drive unless I bought it!

Do they rev and have a kick like the 1*2's high up the revs?
yeah mate 7000rpm limiter is a couple hundred rpm under the 172/182 engine, small flat spot around 4000rpm then pickup from 5000rpm+

it feels like an under powered 172 with dodgy cam timing :tongueclosed: but tbh, it never feels slow as its so light with a short ratio box, even when you pull onto a motorway and are giving it death to 7000rpm and realise the 118d ahead of you is gaining on you - you feel like you are in single seater race car!

What's consumables like on these? Expensive?

Are they widely considered reliable? Any known issues (rust etc)?

What's space in the back like? I'm guessing the boot is tiny with the rear seats up...what about when they're down?

So many questions lol. I really like them.

not had any experience with consumables on these yet but as far as I can see its basically similar to a 172/182, expensive belt changes, no fancy front hubs etc like the 197 to worry about. same size front brakes.

No rust given they are still under 10yrs old, interesting to see what happens as they get older with all the stick on arches etc as far as I know its just the usual K4M stuff the same as a 1.6 Clio, ignition coils, cheap fix, other than that pretty reliable, most of it is based on mk2 clio which is all at the age that any common faults were ironed out!

The rear seats slide back and forward like the fronts in most cars! so if you slide them right forward you have a boot about the size of a modern mk3/4 clio with no rear leg room and if you slide them right back you have loads of rear leg room with a boot that would struggle to fit a midget in!
