  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
hey guys.
didnt know where to put this to be honest as its to do with a few things but all but 1 clio related ;)

First off was swapping my front wheels for my rear wheels as the fronts were worn a hell of a lot more than my rears and i cant afford to get new tyres so just swapped them. the tread is still legal mind but the rears had about 4times more tread left in them. anyone else found the front wearing more quickly ? or anyone changed them like me ?? just looking for views.

Next after washing the car after that ^^ i drove away and have now discovered that what appears to be the front right wheel bearing has gone. raging. surely the bearing shouldnt go until at least 40000 miles. in saying that though my Honda CR-V front wheel bearing went after only a few thousand miles. its soooo noisy and gives a really bad feeling through the pedals and stearing. i just hope its the bearing and not a caliper or anything.

and finally i saw a brand new BMW M5 in blue while changing the wheels. it was SO god damn HOT  .... very noisy too. totally creamed myself when i saw it lol as i totally didnt expect down some wee quiet residential street. me and my mate were just like WTF.

sorry about the read ... but just though i would share.

The fronts will wear more than backs ans its a front wheel drive car.

Sure its not just a wheel balance problem? You will notice it more on the front through the steering than you will on the back.

well the car doesnt veer off to anyside and also all the tyres have the same pressures so cant see it being that.

It wont make it veer, it will just cause a vibration if one of the balance weights have dropped off.

hmm could be then.
how would i check that out ?
just take it somewhere ?

The weights are just stuck on with doubled side type tape. The can easily fall off, if one had fallen off with the wheel on the back chances are you may not have felt the vibration.

Get it on a wheel balancing machine at a local tyre place.

what you're talking about here is wheel allignment, or tracking as it's also named.

i wouldnt wana be putting worn tyres on the back, understeer can be delt with, oversteer bites ur arse unless u can really dirve, most people can do controll t when they blip the back out for fun, but when ur not expecting it......................

Yup as said always have the tyres with more tread on the back of the car. You've got more weight over the front axle and if the front loses traction its easier to correct than a back end swinging out unexpectedly.

front wheels will always wear quicker than the rear ones on a front wheel drive car because the front wheels are dealing with the power and steering, think its probably the same on rear wheel drive cars too, not sure about 4wd?

when my wheel bearings were fuked my tyres were wearing down alot faster
