Tyre choice for a 1.2 16v? advise please.

  Mondeo TXS Bardge.
I've been looking for new tyres as i'm needing some soon as i'm sitting at about 2.5-3mm.
i usually go to national tyres as they have been decent with me i the past, i checked out their website and called them up and they told me to try tyre-shopper.co.uk, as they are one of their fitters, and the prices are easily £15-£25 cheaper per conrner fully fitted.

at the moment i have barum bavarus made by continental on the car currently and i was gonna just get them again(£45) as they have been really good soo far, and lasted almost 15k on the front and a fair few k left on the back. but the prices here for premium numbers are what i paid for these mid range ones last time. so i'm thinking of getting "better" ones

ive the looked on the tyre poll, and from it they suggest ive narrowed it down to;

Good year eagal F1s gsd2
conti premium contact
conti premium contact 2 ( whats the diff?)
and pirrele p6000
all of those are about £66 fully fit etc.

but they also have avon ZV3s on offer for £55 a corner are these a half decent tyre?

whats your opinions folks?

what did you get in the end?
I've been looking at the conti prem contact 2. I've got Goodyear GT3's on front at moment and the slide like a B**ch under any corner over 30mph.
Supprised no one got back to you before, Very unlike someone on here to comment. Must be 'cos weve only got 1.2's!;)

i actually went for the barums again, i took my brother 1.2 clio out which is on the contis, and i wasnt impressed, the characterists were different, and it just felt completley alien, quieter though. but to be honest on a 1.2 there is no real need for performace tyre. the barums (cheap contis) have great grip wet or dry only slide when your really being a spoon. (or on half the corners round here where the tarmac has crumbleds and you wouldnt get grip with tracks let alone tyres).
It was a great price for the tyres tho (£88 the pair) and the garage i'm getting them fit at the garage u always use, and they guy is gonna do my tracking for free because i always take my and my familys cars there :D

what wheel size you running, because the didnt have any in my size 185 55 R15.

by try that web site, national are their fitter,s and they are a good £30 cheaper than going to the garage. and the availabilty is usually 2 days so order monday fit wednesday, but if you phone the National after you book it they can usually pring you forward.

I've got 175/60/14 79t on the goodyears but it's a dead size now apparently. either going for 65's or 55's.

re: the 'not worth it on only a 1.2' comment, it's always worth buying good tyres - they're the only thing holding you on the road!

And yes, it may not have the power, but in an emergency situation you want tyres that aren't made of concrete that just lock up and slide into what you're looking to avoid! lol

Got some Toyo Proxes CF1 185/55/14 from C&S tyres in middlesbrough today for £89.00 fitted. Had them swap front to back and removed damaged alloy and fit on new one for free. not too bad!

Good year eagal F1s gsd2
conti premium contact
conti premium contact 2 ( whats the diff?)
The conti premium contact has been out of production for about a year the 2's superceed them they have a different patern and for road use there just as good realy I'd get the originals but there out of production so getting a sets a pain.
but to be honest on a 1.2 there is no real need for performace tyre. the barums (cheap contis) have great grip wet or dry only slide when your really being a spoon. (or on half the corners round here where the tarmac has crumbleds and you wouldnt get grip with tracks let alone tyres).
You always need to get some decinet tyres if your going to give it some there the most important thing.
