tyre tred

  MK3 GTI golf 16v
i have toyo proxes and just took the front wheels off to paint the calipres and noticed the inside edge of my tyres is completely flat. like a good inch or so is like a slick,
im presuming there is not much life left in these ?
my mot is due next month and im also presuming this is a fail ?
the only other issue is i have a 4 hour or so motorway drive to do later today and are these going to be ok to drive on?

cheers for any help

Might need to get traking done. cant tell you about how legal they are without pics. i would put them on the rear tho

cheers for the link, the photo on it is almost identical to my tyre :/ my tyre has more tred across the whole tyre but is still bald on the inside edge. both my fronts are like it, one is slightly worse than the other.
rear tyres are fine, should i swap them to the back and hope for the best ? i have to make this drive later today so i cant just leave it and get it sorted soon

Definitely an MOT failure. And illegal too so if you get pulled you could get 3 points per illegal tyre, so no driving to attract attention today.

The risk of swapping fronts and rears is that you'll need 4 tyres instead of 2 pretty soon. Try and get your tracking done before your drive and then swap tyres. If you're running coilovers and camber, I'd get that checked too.

ok for my long journey today i have managed to borrow 2 front alloys with tyres off a mate ( have same wheels). will have to buy some new tyres soon and get them fitted and il have the tracking done.

i am on coilovers with camber adjustment but the camber is just left as it was originally so surely should be ok ?

If the camber is not too aggressive, then that should be ok. Did you have your tracking done after fitting/adjusting coilovers? That could be part of the problem.

Isn't it only the top 75% of the tyre? So these bits right by the edges don't actually matter?

maybe but its a fairly large area of the tyre not just the edge :(

will get the tracking done when i have new tyres fitted and see whats whats then.

can anyone recomend a tyre with a good life ? these are only 6 months old and dont fancy replacing them that soon again
