Tyres - non 172 clios

I was driving back from the gym last night in my clio (2002 model) on slightly damp roads and i was impressed by the road holding of the tyres. The previous dry weekend there wasnt as much grip at all. Has anyone experienced this? Have the tyres been made to work better in crappy conditions or am i going mad?

Has anyone got non standard tyres and noticed improvements? If so what tyres are they?

Cheers,

-Rob

Paul (Coolspot) had some on his 16v and the grip was simply amazin, he tried to get it to lose grip once on this uphill corner but it just wouldnt, i wouldnt have have even been able to get to the speed he was at on the corner without feeling uneasy about whether my car is about to let go
