UCH Module how to program/reprogram

Hi All,
Someone in dads work has a Mark 2 Clio Expression 16v 1.2 July 03.

The UCH module has apparently failed and two different people said it needs to be 1. a "virgin" UCH 2.New ECU and electrics

I don't believe this is true.

Is there anyway I can plug this "non virgin" box in and then reconfigure it to become the box replacement.

I believe the UCH box does this:
UCH Module Passenger side behind fuse box.
Wipers, Central Locking, indicators and electric windows.

  MG ZR x2, Polo, CTR
Step 1: go to Renault.
Step 2: bend over

Pretty much only way to solve that without getting a matching key, ECU, UCH and decoder ring second hand.
might get lucky in the for sale section here though

What you have (info wise) is semi-correct...

CLIP PROCESS:

When replacing a damaged/faulty UCH you need a new "Virgin" UCH and the 12 character vehicles access code to enable access to the secure programming area of the vehicle itself. When you have this you then connect the new UCH up, connect via CLIP, enter the security code and the process is then fully automated to set up the vehicles options and security. You will be prompted to insert any key(s) for the vehicle and that is it... done!

The program extracts the imobilliser and key data from the existing ECU setup so there's no need to replace this. You cannot just plug in a pre-configured UCH from another vehicle and expect it to work as it won't due to it having the other vehicles security info encoded and they're "use once" items (This is why the new units are referred to as "Virgin" components). There are companies out there that can "Clone" a UCH but its not a service I offer myself nor will I comment on how it's done.

There are other bits of software out there to that can do this task but most work in a similar way to the dealer level kit. The one exception that I know of is a legit piece of software/hardware called "Truecode" which is actually a Renault/Nissan specific key programming module. This is used mainly by independent garages to code keys/keycards without the need of CLIP/CONNECT or access to NRE/RenaultNET but it's not cheap (around £1000+VAT with all modules enabled) but along with keys it can also do controller module programming/configuration. It also gets used by dodgy beggars to steal cars off driveways as it can interrogate the UCH/ECU and "extract" the security details which negates the requirement for any security code input so if you think you can just buy it then think again as the single UK reseller is now cautious about whom they sell to (ie. not private individuals) and buying blank keys/key cards has gotten that much harder to so even we send people to the dealers now as there's no profit in this service.

Mick thats great.
Its not for me personally nor do i wish to do anything dodgy.
So there is a way to reverse a used UCH into a virgin UCH then. Interesting, as basically as my dad got another uch from one of his agri dealers yards to try. So was checking what was needed to make it work.

Sorry to bring an old thread back, I worked on my dashboard top recently and removed cluster, AC control, etc... the problem is that when I re-connected the Cluster it is not showing my old trip computer data, no mileage, no l/100Km, no odometer, no oil OK, nothing... if I navigate through the "options" with the windshield washers button it just shows me numbers.. like 1723, 5, 2, 1... then again. Also, my automatic lights and I assume my auto-windshield washers are not working. I know it is related to the UCH being programmed or something, but I already checked with Clip and no faults are shown for this. Is there any procedure to re-connect the cluster to the car? PD. I drove the car without the cluster a few miles since I had to buy some things. Cheers!
