Ultimate weight reduction

Lol, so now I'm a liar as well, on a short circuit like Mallory it was fairly easy to do.

TBH you're not one to lie Tony so I'm happy to take your word for it, but that really is staggering. Within a tenth, as harv says, is good pace, within a couple of hundredths is stupendous.

I bet if you look at plato with and without balast on a given day the ultimate lap times with and without 45kgs of ballast isnt huge.
Fair play tony to bang out lap after lap within a few hundredths but you should be as you know .... consistency is whats needed..... after consistancy i look how close to the loggers predicted best ... should be within a tenth or so to know your on it .

Track days are a different ball game i couldnt drive on one like i race or would want to thats for sure

45kg would be a few 10ths per lap according to tim harvey. im sure hes mentioned upto half a second but dont quote me

I'm sure not Harv, but then they have to worry about tyre wear etc on top of all that.

Yes logger predicted a quicker time adding all the sectors together, but then I was only just under that, and felt as though I could have gone around all day at that pace.

I like to do that, just hitting all the apex's and marks around the circuit time after time, it becomes hypnotic.

I was trying too look at the lap charts to get an exact ... but it depends on so many things.

The hard or soft tyre , what circuit and the weather ..... hot and dry on a tight circuit then maximum penalty ... a wet day on for example snet and it would have much.less .

And dont forget not everyone is banging in the same lap times .

Silverstone for example plato won race 1 and 2 .... race 2 was wet

the only way to truly know is if they tested back to back. but given the choice who would want 45kg extra. lol they hate it so it must have a killer effect.

Nobody wants extra weight .... another big issue is the ballast box is a fixed position is it not ? Passanger foot well ..... and it upsets balance which has more effect

Yes ballast box is fixed. And I agree, nobody wan't extra weight, but I just think people get carried away for a track day car.

If you can't drive, it doesn't matter how light your car is. (not pointing at anybody btw).

Chasing lap times on a trackday is a bad idea imo. I try and do a few quick laps and then end up chatting with who ever is in the car about the amount of cars over taking me lol

what a load of rubbish. have you ever done a track day? you can chase lap times in a safe manner and just wait until the clear lap comes. i dont agree with anyone driving like a idiot on a track day but if you wanna go slow go find another hobby

I have no idea what lap time i.have ever done on a track day (except 1 i can think of) and i have done hundreds ..... want to know your lap time do a test day with the big boys

Don't take this the wrong way, but this is the reason I hardly ever do a track day, and stick to test day's instead.

Because you dont like getting shown up by standard clios? :rasp:

In all seriousness though, obviously thats traffic permitting and the last day i went on was 70% race cars and they got in the way 90% of the time!
So yeah, they should stick to test days.

Why do you think timing equipment is banned? I agree on a clear lap you can pin it and go for a time for fun, but you shouldn't be going there for the explicit purpose of setting times.

Track days are STRICTLY non-competitive.

Ah ha, my post 154 should be 2-3 tenths not 000ths, that's why you were getting all excited, sorry for that. Still good though.

Also get a bottle of Iron X to remove unnecessary weight from your paint. Polish it afterwards in order to thin down the clear coat a bit.

Worth half a second per lap in the hands of McDriftin.

I'd only recommend doing the front end of the car to be honest Roy. I found that I lost the back end a lot easier when I did the rear. I'm not a driving pro though.
