Upgrading speaker cable into mk2 ph2 doors

as title really, anyone know how to do this? id like to upgrade the speaker cable going into my doors from the oem crap to some nice shiny new cable for my components.

Are you going to run them to the headunit, if so it's a waste of time but it will be a straight forward wire for wire swap remove old wire feed new wire the original route and wire into iso connector/amp then to speakers.

they will be amped mate, can i tape the new wire to the old wire and drag it thru?

Ive heard it can be very tricky, ive just ran my speaker cable up the sils and through the side of the doar where there is a bit of plastic near the window. Only did it as a tempoary measure but there still going through there.

yep! Well i was certain i was gonna do it and i give up. Just ended up "wiring" into the standard wiring before it goes into the door (does that make sense)? :s

yeah ive done a similar thing already tbh dan, i bought a female iso connector so i didnt have to splice the origional iso connector and then just chopped the ends of in the door so i could put some proper speaker connectors on. id just like to have upgraded wiring through the door if possible.

im bein a bit of a tart though with my comps tbh crossovers started off in the boot...now theyre in the dash lol

A chain is only as strong as the weakest link.

If you have copper wire, that's pretty weak!!

If you spend any money on new speakers and amplifiers, you have to budget for wire as you will be losing out otherwise.

As Richer Sounds quote

"Spending money on a good hi-fi and wiring it with bell wire is like drinking vintage wine from a polestyrene cup"

And it's true, I'm not sure how much car audio outlets charge for wire, but when I come to mine, I will goto Richersounds and get their QED Silver wire. £7.50 a metre of the best.

BTW, unless the wires are cable tied in multiple locations, you should be able to solder and tape the old wire to the new wire, and use the old wire to pull the new wire through.

Perhaps this is a little idealistic but worth a shot no ?

I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to stop you there chap. Silver speaker wire? Now come on, the guys is just upgrading his standard setup not creating a referance system. There's nothing wrong with decent quality copper wire.

On my cup i managed to get the cables through the rubber boot with the rest of the wiring, just pushed out four pins in the plug that weren't being used. didn't take that long.

you cant simply "pull the wire through" as its not all 1 piece of wire.

where it goes through to the door is an ISO connector, one part in the car and the other part in the door. This means there is a break in the wire where its connected to either end of the ISO.

To replace the wire, you will either have to remove the pins in the ISO plugs and replace the existing cable, or create another path through the ISO blocks and route new cable next to the old.

Its not easy, Dan was determined to do it after i said i gave up, and as it turns out, he gave up too lol

sounds to much trouble and too many things can go tits up. they sound fine anyway. got decent cable for the rest of the journey from the headunit to the amp and amp to crossover.

Short of drilling new holes in your door checks, a particularly strong part of the metalwork of the car and running fresh cable through fresh holes, there is no easy way

That said you could just take a piss... Or spit a few times before you get in the car !!

BTW, quality speaker cable DOES make a difference, maybe at low loads you won't tell the difference, but it removes a lot of the static and general noise you get at high volumes.

To wire a whole car it shouldn't cost more than £60 imo. Perhaps a few layers of skin on the knuckles too.

I'd say do it all together, set a few days for taking your dash and doors apart, and put everything in there.
