Urgent help needed (time is runninf out) best way to lock crank to loosen bolt?

  944T, 197, Zetec-S
The manual says to use a large screw driver, but I can't find out where, and I've had bad luck doing that on other engines. How do you lock the crank to loosen that bolt and remove the aux belt pulley?

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
you need to pin the crank through the hole in the front of the block.

What are you trying to do?

dont need to lock the crank to remove Aux belt.... or remove the crank bolt. But if you want to lock the crank.... remove the Torx screw on front of engine block, insert the correct locking pin, but make sure the pin hasnt gone into a balancing hole on the crank. only important if your removing timing belt.

By removing the aux pulley you will need check the timing again anyway so best to use the crank pin, horse shoe and cam sprockets locking tool.

most 197's have a keyed sprocket so it's not always necessary. However without knowing beforehand you'd be guessing

I Still want to know why it's being removed

Thanks guys.
My phone ran out of juice so I could not read your replies (garage away from home), but I found out after a while.
I'm changing the belts, servicing the brakes, lowering the seats, changing water pump, installing mud flaps, a new stereo and an electric engine heater. The manual says specifically to use a large screw driver to lock the flywheel. I found out after a while that removing the rear wheel well liner gives acces to the ring gear right next to the starter. I inserted a screw driver there and the bolt came off no problem.

PS. If you do this make sure to insert the screw driver immediately below the starter motor. Placing it further down may cause you to break part of the oil pan.
