URGENT - Need to setup FTP server in 20 mins...

Car  Clio 197
Hiya,

I've got a friend leaving the country later on today...

...but I need to get about 1gb of data to him before he leaves.

I'd like to setup my home PC so that he can dld the filed directly from my HD. I've done it before, but can't remember how to do it (time pressure's made me blank).

Can someone help?

Love Oms.

Thanks for the links... but not enough info really.

umm.

1) install war ftpd.
2) select folder(s) to share (in war ftpd UI)
3) create a user for your friend ((in war ftpd UI)

You'll probably have to forward port 21 on your firewall to your computer, but other than that, job done!

Install an application like Serv-U on your PC, think you may be able to get this free/shareware or at least a free trial. State which folders you need to share and setup a username and password for him. (Think this can all be done in a wizard)

Get him to use an FTP program to connect to your public IP address, in the FTP program state the username and password as the ones you've setup for him in Serv-U.

There you go......should take no longer than 10mins to setup and start the downloading.

Ta, that's better. :D

Sorry... its just that the help file on war ftpd was useless!

All done now, and all working. (I had to forward ports 20 & 21. I also had to allow access through my window's firewall... and bob's yer uncle).

The thing is, I'd done a google search... and all the sites I found made things incredibly complicated!!

Haha. Easy when you know how eh?!

Good that you've got it all working!

yeah thanks! Problem - my IP address has already changed once today... I'm worried it'll change overnight.

What's a good way of fixing it?

1) static ip.
2) use a dynamic dns service. (like dyndns or no-ip)
3) make sure you don't disconnect!

Choose one. :)
