urgent - warranty cover

  RB5 & 172

my 2001 mk1 172 is at reno today for several faults, ie loose engine mount, ecu that need re-mapping as it was lacking performance and knackered water pump. they are telling me the engine related problems are not covered as i have a non reno exhaust, even the engine mount. have they tried this with anyone else??

The only thing they have a case for is the ECU. Have you got the old exhaust, could do a swap then take it back, thing is when you put the aftermarket back on the ECU may go wrong again if the initial problem was caused by it.

im not to worried about the ecu, i accept that. however i do not see how a after market exhaust can break engine mounts?

I had my engine mount done a month ago under warranty, and I have a very conspicuous Magnex exhaust. Not a word was said.

dont try your luck, its pure bull sh*t that the exhaust could affect an engine mount....

I was told by the dealer that the rear box would not affect the warranty, thats why i changed mine. But if i changed anything else it would be affected. I have already had a new ecu once! my car was in warranty today for them to sort out the airbag fault took six hours but when i got it back the whole car feels different, smoother running, steering feels better and they said they have repaired a fault with the hand brake! Im wondering if they have done something to the ecu again too!

Its total crap that a backbox can rip your engine off its mountings. However The terms of your waranty clearly state that modifying the car can invalidate your waranty. Seems like your particular dealership are sticking a bit too close to the rules. Try taking it to another dealer, you dont have to take it back to were you bought it.

Before I do anything to mine Im going to go and see the owner of the dealership and get something in writing from them if they agree that I can but a backbox/filter etc on the car and still have full warranty.

its crap but they will try anything not to pay for it......as warrenty repairs even when subsidiesd by the facotry are huge........

well i got it back with a huugggge bill for £425! i kicked up a fuss but they were not moving so i will now try and take it up with reno uk.

they said as a result of my magnex zorst no engine problems are covered by the warranty! prob is i have had it at reno twice for a knocking which i told them to check the engine mount but they told me nothing was wrong! it got even worse and the torsion arm on the rear of the engine had bust, prob as a result of the engine mount? anyway i had to pay for both.

also had to change the auxiliary belts at 34k? recommended at 36K? its just had its 36K service early and nothing was mentioned, is this the true?

on the up side it is running much better.
