Using a trolley jack on a 172

Im going to fit my Cup splitter on Friday so I need to get the car jacked up pretty high to get the drill underneath the bumper.

Where is the best place to position the trolley jack to allow me to get the front of the car up in the air so that I can slide a couple of axle stands underneath?

Thanks

There are jacking points under the sills mate, check the handbook...

buy some 20 quid ramps you can drive the front end into the air........jacks on ren sills always ends in a nightmate.

I got some ramps from halfords once. Didnt have a chance in hell of getting the car up onto them without first taking off the front bumper.

Needless to say, I got my money back on them.

I watched the mechanics using trolley jacks at Donington - they used the regular jacking points under the sills. Id try ramps.

Thanks guys. Having read about the jacking points being extremely week Ill stick with my next door neighbours ramps providing he can remember where he put them!!

If youve not done it yet Lee, use a block of wood on the trolley jack, on the front of the chassis/sub frame you will see a large bolt head, I jack directly under this. On the back again with a block of wood you can jack under the rear trailing arms (think thats what they are called), use a BIG block of wood to spread the load. Personally I would not go near the Reno sill points with a trolley jack, they are made to accept the stardard scissor jack only. I could not get my car up ramps either, spoliers too deep to clear, must make some ramp extensions one day from a plank of wood.

Cheers mate,

We managed to do it okay in the end. We just took it carefully then placed the axle stands under at the cross section on the front wishbones.

Pictures in the media forum. :D

DONT bother with ramps.. unless you want to rip your front bumper off.. seriously..

I got a set of ramps that my lowered 205 GTi would get up.. the 172 has no chance.

ps. just read that you already fitted it..

if you can get a block of wood under the car, i best most of you lot cant even get a jack under them lol.
