V6 Airbox on 172 Ph2

  172 FF Ph2
Hi Guys,

New to the site, so hello to all firstly. I have heard / read plenty about fitting a V6 Airbox to the 172 for power gains, does anyone know which V6 it comes from? There is a difference between the airboxes in the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clio V6's and don't want to spend a fortune on the wrong one!

Any help would be great!

Also anyone know which / where the relay for the front fog lamps would be on the 172? Mine I think is dead. Thanks again

Ah ha! V6 Espace! (Hides Phase 1 V6 Clio Airbox under desk!) Which ilk of Espace? V6 of course but a year at all? This would be rather helpful. thanks guys!

Bring it back out if it has the one inlet as its exactly the same as the Espace lol

ph1 172 box = 2 x 1,5'' inlets (roughly that size)

V6 box = 1 x 100mm inlet

Both same box design

i got one from the scrappies this week , from a '98 one. Cost me 10 pounds :) The piece of 100mm caf is going to cost me more !
Partnumber has been posted not too long ago, easy search

To bring this thread back to life... I've located a '94 Espace 2.9 v6 airbox, with all the trimmings / fixings. Will this be okay? There seems to be a metal and plastic box - with either do?

I've not got a part number to hand, as it's from a scrappy, but all advice appreciated.

i do'nt think you have the correct one reading your post above.. should be this one. Same as the 172phase1 only the airinlet where the caf goes is 10cm..

That's what I'm trying to figure out mate - i'd assume that all Espace V6 airboxes would be the same, but I do know that Renault made some of them metal (I don't know whether the one I've found is plastic or metal).

I think I'll give them a call and ask for them to confirm if it's plastic.

Going on the basis of designed interchangeable parts id guess you want one from the year 1998 + area (roughly when the 172;s came out and im guessing when the engine used in the V6 based cars came out? )

Total guess tho

Makes no difference if it's plastic or metal Son.

As long as it fits in the bay, the filter fits and the inlet and outlet are correct, you're away.

Some of the espace v6 airboxes were square. Not entirely sure what year though it does say on the forum somewhere. Ive never quite worked out why they bothered to design an airbox for the PH1 172 when they could have just used the one from the espace.

If this setup was that good (i.e. Mk1 sport) why didn't Renault continue using it in the Mk2?

Lack of space? ph2 setup looks tidier and fits the space better? Who knows

From what I've heard, there's no real benefit to performance but is just easier to make a nicer noise from it. Plus, it looks cooler than the ph2 box!

So, as long as it's not the square box, I should be okay. Seeing as there's a ph1 172 box without clips for sale on here for £20, I could be on for a bargain...
