V6 History...

My Mk1 V6 hasnt got a number plaque and was never an "official" Renault car... Apparently, it was bought off the administrators that took over TWR after the Arrows fiasco and had never actually been sold by Renault as they held onto the first couple of complete cars... It is chassis number 2 and is definately the second car built (or so Im told...) and doesnt differ at all from the plaqued ones that Ive looked at.

However, when I took it to my Renault dealer not long after Id bought it to get a problem with the key sorted, they actually had it for the full day and couldnt do owt with it cos Renault wouldnt acknowledge its existance!!!!

Now, does this mean that someone out there is driving round with a V6 with the "Number 2" plaque or is that mine?? Was mine supposed to have been crushed cos it was one of the test cars or what?? Where can I get some info from because I really want to know what the history of my car is - and yes, Ive tried contacting the previous registered keeper but as its TWR, Im not getting much joy - Help!!!!!!

oh, and you got hold of the v6 I was going to auction to buy, until they removed them all from the list

Removed them from the list... why?? I bought mine form a local specialist car dealer and he was a bit unsure on its history to - am led to believe that it only cost 11K at auction and I must confess I got it for a couple of grand less than I expected to (but a lot more than 11K!! Only found out that bit after Id bought it ).

Should I be worried or chuffed about owning this particular one do you think (I go from one to the other daily at mo!)...

if you pm me the reg and the chassis number i will see if renault/icm will accept it.if it does then as far as renaults computer system is concerned it does exsist. There is a way to get the immobiliser code other than the chassis number.you enter a spare code into the vehicles uch using the diag equipment.this then gives you a long identification code which you fax off to obtain the immobiliser code.

Send me the chassis and Ill have a look also. The auctioned ex-TWR cars were prototypes in various stages of development. Yours will not have a plaque as it was never intended to be sold to a customer so yes there is someone with plaque no. 2 as they will have the second production car.

I will ask my father in law if he knows any of the cars history as he worked on the V6 as one of the project engineers during its development. He brought a couple home on test to show me before they were released. What colour is yours Mikey as this may help his memory.

CB1A was a guy on here who worked for reno + owned a V6.

Project 254 also comes on here and hes the daddy of the V6, he built it!

well, CB1A got banned, u wont be seeing him. Project 254 (which was the codename for the V6) will more than likely be able to sort you out, at one point he owned 4 of the test V6s i think, sounds similar to what youve got?

CB1A got banned for apparently calling a moderater a part of a female body. and wanting to appear in some show without paying to become a member. Shame he got banned but its upto the moderators decision and who can complain to much when they work for free.

Shame realy

Spoke to my father in law last night who was the head chassis engineer on the mk1 V6. He thinks your car is probably a series 2 pre-production car (series one was the very rough prototypes which were probably scraped). From memory he said there may be some issues that are worth considering with these cars:

1. The rear subframe may be of the early design with different bottom suspension arm pick up points and different track control arms and top arms. This may mean that the handling is rather unpredicatble - be very careful in the wet! (Note. He was aware of the handling problems on the Mk1 but Renault did not want to change it for production!)

2. The engine may be the standard 3.0lt V6 from the laguna which is rated at 190bhp and not the 225bhp of the clio production ones.

3. Make sure the exhaust is well away from the rear bodywork as they did melt some of the prototypes cars!

4. There was a problem with the early wheel hubs with the bearings shifting out of the hubs! This was inherited from the laguna and was re-designed on the production cars.

Obviously he did not know what happened to the vehicles after TWR folded and he does not know for sure if your car is one of the vehicles described above, but from what you have said it is quite probable.
If you find anymore id or details on the car it would be interesting to know, I dont mind asking him anything else as it was a good to find out about these things. By the way Im still jealous, I want a V6!!

Have discussed things further and there is also a chance it could be a development car for the Mk2, which could mean it has some of the latest changes. If you could pm the reg and some photos then I will hopefully be able to tell you more. Take photos of any ID marks, any stickers, etc
