V6 kit any good?

  MG ZR 1.8
Hi,

I am looking at buying a new car. Thinking of buying a mk2 clio with smallish engine for insurance reasons.

Saw this kit on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Renault-Clio-...ryZ43117QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Just wondering if anyone has fitted one, if so how much did it cost?

Have spoken to a mate who said that a show car used either this kit or a similar kit and it involved a huge amount of work due to the parts all being a poor fit!

I think that the Clio v6 kit makes it one of the nicest looking hatches around so would really like to see if i can do this!!

Cheers

rory

i think 99% of the people on here are going to slate you for asking this question!

dont do it...it will NEVER look like the real thing!!

that was my worry.

wont bother if its not going to be much good.

will have to wait a few years then until i can insure the real thing.

shame as would have been awesome to be able to make a decent rep as the V6 really is such a stunning car!

haha no need to slate me im not into half-arsed jobs or anything like that. so was fairly suspicious of it actually being a good product tbh!

Oh! come on Guys, perhaps its not for the purists but as the o/p said, he has insurance issues to deal with. Don't just put him off without explaining the problems properly.

Its not my thing Rory, but the various look-a-likes that get mentioned on here are sometimes less than "convincing" shall we say.

The main problem is the way the panels fit (or don't) and the wheels never seem to be in the right place.

You might need to do some searches and ask someone who has made one up, although I doubt many are going to rush forward and admit it on here.

Your insurance company will need to know if you do any mods to a car, and they might cane you for such a conversion, worth checking.

Any body kit for less than £400 will be crap especially when theres lots of it in terms of a V6 kit plus its GRP ie fibre glass

Look at all the V6 replicas on ebay they look awful and people can't give them away as they're so bad

The seller has awful feedback for a bodykit specialist, comments like 'the kit doesn't fit' don't exactly fill me with confidence. The pictures he uses aren't real cars they're photoshop type images which is another bad sign

Yeah true, i saw one on prima which was £800 or so but apparently a guy who bought that spent thousands getting it fitted correctly at Xquisite.

Think i will give the kit a miss then. I dont suppose its possible to buy the genuine panels from renault themselves?

Open your wallet and say HELP YOURSELF iirc a wing is over £1000

blooody hell! lol

reminds me of when i was buying a laguna splitter recently for my ZR, they wanted £75 or something for it! dealers always cost the most... but i guess if you want to do it properly you have to pay the price.

Being 18. driving for 7 months and having just wrote off my MG ZR i really dont think any one is going to insure me on a V6 lol.

Already had 2 ZRs (didnt write off the first one) and so i was looking for something different. But obviously with insurance prices, etc i am restricted.

Thought the V6 looked absoloutely awesome so if a rep could be done fairly easily would be worthwhile!

Although i do like Clios, i just dont feel they are really bulky enough, or hold enough road presence due to being quite small hatch's - hence i have preffered the ZR up to now as it is bulkier with the skirts etc.

Suppose other option really is a golf..

It would probably cost over 6k getting the car to look right due to the wheels etc needing adusting to look right. You may be able to get v6 bits cheaper from specialist scrappies but some bits maybe hard to get hold of
