VAG is volkswagen not volvo.

Been doing a volvo turbo conversion on DJW daves mk1 and thats been a b**ch, it would be not much more cash, be quicker and easier to do a 172 transplant mate

  FOR SALE!!!

If you really want a turbo Id got for GTT conversion as its carb so needs less wiring or go all out and do the VAG 1.8 turbo from teh golf etc.

Hoenstly mate, teh volvo engine is decent but probably not worth the hassle in a mk2.

I wouldnt bother, either 172 it or buy a turbo car instead

  FOR SALE!!!
i thort the 1.7would be better than the r5 how much you think could get a beat up 5 for then body work etc dont matter just engine and box also im only really looking for 150 bhp as im only young but want somthink diffrent around my area

Out of curiosity are you going to be informing your insurance company you are transplanting a 1.8T engine into your clio at the age of 18? Have you thought about your insurance premium? I'd be suprised if they would even insure you at all.

You do realise the conversion is not simple and will set you back a LOT of wedge. Would be cheaper just buying a turbo car.

Is this something you would love to do but will probably never happen?

Very valid points.

If you have unlimited money go for it!!

well everythink i have ever wanted to do i have dun so far

i do understand that its will cost a lot of money and would be cheaper to go and buy a turbo car but i never like doing things the easy way and i want to have somethink diffrent that no one around my area has got

insurance wise yes i no it would go up by hell of a lot this is why the car is off the road to get the work done so when i put it back on to the road most of the costs are out of the way so will have the money to pay the stupid price insurance

I love how often people justify crazy (and very expensive) ideas with "I want to be different".

It's your money, do as you wish.

  None
Its prob easier to just buy a 172 etc then a conversion. I wouldn't recommend tuning a 1.2 engine really tho due to the cost and power gain. I done it anyway for a laugh and look and my lovely new powergain I achieved recently lol. If you did do a Volvo transplant you will most likely need a Volvo or Clio RSI gearbox and you would need to swap all the wiring from the Volvo (which is a pain to do). Why don't you keep the 1.2 for a few years then save up for a nice upgrade when you have more no claims etc as it seems more of a logical/sensible option then spending around 2-3k on a transplant and another 2-3k insuring the damn thing

  DUB mk2 golf gti!
just buy sumthing else!lol eg corsa with 2.0litre in it!loads around, and loads of info on the conversions!

MOFO have you changed your username?

Lol, just buy a 1*2 and be done with it IMO. You'll get hit with fault finding if it ever goes wrong, something you wont get from just buying a stock clio RS and lightly modding the engine.

As people have said, you pays your money, you take your choice.

You'll also NEVER get back the money you put into it. I've done it and learnt my lesson and seriously, it's such a waste of money to chuck maybe £6k at a car.

  1998 1.2 8v mk2 clio
the volvo engines fit you need mk1 rsi box n shafts and best fing to do wiring wise is get a stand alone ecu DTA Fast ECU's work with the volvo engines great and theres a volvo tuning company crnt think off hand what it is that will map it for next to nothing engine mounts youll also need these from a rsi but they tend to sheer the mount closest to the cambelt you will also need to source a flat anti roll bar not sure what they will be on the 1.2's have a big hump in them and its not phisically posible to fit the down pipe through the standard one especially if its lowered
i have looked into this conversion in great detail and have all the bits to do it but everyone said it would be a great problem with wiring etc so i changed my mind and went and bought a complete 172 engine loom etc and to be honest the 172 conversion looks harder wiring wise im just saving up for a standalone ecu before i fit it so i can still use my car

at the end of the day mounts bracket driveshafts can be easily fabricated and there are alot of companys out there that specialise in fabricating mounts etc wiring is some what more of a tricky point and can end up in a great deal of trouble with stand alone ecu its a peice of cake only need a bit of wiring n its fairly straight forward

not a waste of money at all, at least not if I get to benefit from it afterwards! love itb's... mmmmm  lol

... a good reason to keep yours really Martin, you wont get another like it at that price and if it was me I'd miss the noise more than anything, the performance is just a bonus... E36 M3 is your best replacement bet, RWD and ITB's as stock and can be tuned for massive power!

as for the posters question just buy Martin's car, 220+bhp on ITB's and there's little on the road that will touch these cars! Will keep this for a while as it's like a different car from when I first got it, it's the whole getting to know it again, bet your in the same boat now mate!

pretty sure they both are, the 3.0 my mate used to have had individual K&N type filters over what looked like bodies... :S

Your right really, after going to pod it really hit me how much bang for the buck I've got and the noise is sex!

I'd love to keep it long term and gradually increase the spec....hmm

do it Martin, that's what I'm doing with mine... getting wilder cams, pistons, crank, rods, and headwork. Would be nice to hit 250+bhp if possible
