Valver burning lots of oil

What are the common causes since my valver is currently using a litre every 400 miles. Ive just put some oil treatment in to see if that cures it.

Is there anything else i can do?

Do a leak down test and compression test to establish whats wrong. A decent garage should have the gear to do it.

I was told up to 1000 miles for a litre was ok but anything less and theres something wrong

keep it topped up and go for a thicker oil

is it using oil or leaking oil?

if it aint leaking then prob rings, valve stem oil seals or maybe head gasket - got any oil in water?

given the type of car, the age and the fact that they have a hard life then prob worn rings!

Its actually burning it. Since then engine has done 143k its probally the piston rings.

How much for replacements?

It,s buggerd LOL Either oil leak, piston rings or stem oil seals. If it smokes when you boot it i think it is the rings or if it smokes when you change gear it is the the valve stem oil seals.??

^^^ lol both, dont worry about it, the kitcar does it to, its happy as long as you keep it between the min and max levels

the smokes just a lil embaressing at shows and if Im honest thats the only reason Id think about changing mine
