Coming back from my girlfriends the other day, boming it up the motorway, my exhaust has been knocking for weeks but it sunnenly sounds worse. When i get home i find out that the top gearbox mount that is normally held on with 3 bolts is now only being held on by 5mm of thread from one bolt. one had come out completely and the other had sheered off.
I can only imagine that the monkey that owned my car last didnt do them up properly.
Now the engine flapping about had somehow snapped off the dipstick tube into the block and the nearside driveshaft seal onto the gearbox was pissing out gearbox oil.
Took me most of a day to sort it all out. If i wasnt so skint i would have fitted a R19 mount too.
Now we get onto my exhaust problems. Whoever had the car before me ran the car up with a misfire for so long that the exhuast/cat/downpipe glowed red and warped all the flanges. The car came with a new cat to fit and i put it all on but its been leaking badly. I spent hours flatting all the flanges the other day and put it all back together with loads of paste and the thing still leaks. It sounds quite nice but im fed up of the attention it atracts driving around in a loud white 16v. My dad seems to think that the flanges dont have any strength in them and are just bending at the bolt holes. My options at the moment seem to be either buy a whole new exuast system including downpipe or just lump it
well done for reading all that!
