Right... ive got a standard valer 1994. Theres no mods on the car, the only thing ive done is drilled a few holes in the airbox. I done think this has affected performance im not sure, but at the moment im having trouble over taking VTR's. Surely i shouldn't have a problem with these. The car is 12 years old so fair enough its lost abit of power, but i hate VTR's. Because ive drilled the airbox cud this make me lose power? As sucking in hot engine bay air. I have no idea :/ Someone advise me... :'(

Drilling an airbox will slow your car down on most vehicles - its an old boy racers trick that doesnt work. If your gonna mess about with your filter stick a cold air feed on direct to your throttle body with an in line free flow filter. If you still think the cars lacking power take it to a rolling road specialist who will do a power run on your car and then tell you what you need to do to improve power

im not a boy racer m8, its just a cheaper way to sound nice, and trust me, its sounds gawjus

listen to matts advice he knows what hes talking about. dont drill holes in the airbox, might sound good but will destroy power in most cases. If you want a nice sound, get a cheap open air filter, will prob still loose a bit of power but not as much

As a question, how do companies 'tune' standard cars? Can you tweak the ecu? or is it just the case of altering the timing and mixture? Can you even do that on a car with a standard ecu??

Sorry for the hijack lol

Yes you can alter the fueling / advance are r****d the ignition for tuning purposes even on standard Manufacturers ECU's. For example Chris n Nic have just taken there 172 cup to chip wizards in Rochdale and he managed to abstract 197 bhp from there engine on a standard Renault ECU.
