Valver OE Imobiliser Question

Can someone breifly explain how the immobiliser (i assume its that key in the glovebox?) in a valver is connected up?

Reason i ask i that i have some crappy aftermarket system in mine which im going to remove and want to check wether all the connections for the original one are all in place and working (I cant test this ATM as the imobiliser key+barrel in the glovebox are loose so i cant turn it properly)

Thanks!

Another question about this is;

are the imobiliser and the central locking reciever connected in any way (as i have my central locking receiver disconnected atm)?

i have a red LED on top of the steering column panel (that the stalks come out of) - is the an OE item and when should it flash/light?

thanks again...

if you have a phase one 16v it isnt linked to the unlocking of the doors they didnt manage to do that until phase 2

the light on the steering column is standard and mine used to come on when the key was turned in the glove box but yours might be linked to the aftermarket kit

Aye, its a phase 1 so hopefully i should be ok reactivating the standard one. The light has never some on on mine so im assuming that its been disconnected like the imobiliser...if not then im fooked and will need a new one!

Cheers for that...should keep me occupied today!

IIRC the phase 1s had a completely separate circuit for the immobiliser, it wasnt linked to the central locking or alarm or anything. You had to actually stick the key in the lock inside the glove box, turn it and then the immobiliser would cut in.

clio phase 1

the key in the glove box is called a R.A.P.S barrel all it does is cut out the ignition supply (very common to come loose and turn around)

all plip does is the central locking - it has no immob system at all

clio phase 2 and 3

have the immob system tied in with the central locking - thats why you have to double lock car sometimes to get the immob off if you have had the ignition off for a while and have not locked the doors

due to this system they lost the need for the raps barrrel system
