valver power steering pump noise

just bought a 1.8 16v clio and its got a problem with the power steering. the steering is very heavy, the pump is realy noisy when turning the wheel also it sounds a bit like air is being compresssed or escaping when the wheel is turned? also get a squeek as if the belt is slipping when the wheel is turned.
just wondering if anybody had the same problem?

is it a big job to replace the pump?

Think they all do it tbh, mine did.

THey are all godamn awful, they get heat damaged, and they are all generally old and worn now anyway. I *think* 172 pumps are the same though??

Yep, they all seem to do it.... 172 pas pumps fit ok. (Pulley fitting is different).
