Various Warning Lights - Need them canceling off

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Anybody around Bolton/Preston or near/in-between these places that can clear them for me?

Thanks

James

But if you don't fixt the fault, the lights will come back on in 10 minutes. :S

Its not something that needs fixing, im replacing the steering wheel adapter which is broken, causing the horn not to work.

But whilst taking the steering wheel off to see what the problem was, the plastic ring turned round causing all the lights to come on when i started it up after putting it all back together.

Im hoping they will go off when i swop the part this week, but if not i need them clearing at some point, but im not taking it to Renault as they will no doubt rip me off.

Everytime i mess/repare electrical parts i always disconnect the battery it never comes up with faults or warning lights.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 10min to see if that might do the trick now you fixed the problem.

I have quite a few. You get used to them after a while as they only reappear if you do get rid of them.

Black tape behind the dials if they're really bugging you lol.

when you swap the steering wheel squib (the ring) it should automatically knock the airbag and serv lights out when it self tests on start up. By allowing the squib to turn with the wheel off its basically broken the wiring inside it. Replace the squib and make sure you align it correctly and provided there are no other faults it wont come back on.

It isn't as easy as that mate. It will need recalibrating with clip as when you turn the squib, the SPS also moves, so it will register the steering angle as off, and the TC/Service lights will illuminate as soon as the wheel is turned.

Black tape, de-soldering, etc all dodgy trade tricks that will not work from January Vicky as ABS/TCS/ESP/SRS/EM lights must all (where equipment is fitted) be observed to come on at pre-ignition check and then go off and stay off post-ignition. If you have airbags installed in the car and the SRS light is on post-ignition (or if it doesn't even come on for pre-ignition check) then the system will be classed as "in fault" so no MOT pass i'm afraid. Get caught by the Police at a roadside stop by a clued up officer with one on and you'll be sent straight back with a defect notice and 7days to produce a satisfaction note.

If you want to de-SRS your car then you have two options:

1 - Remove every part of the system from the car then de-MIL it.
2 - Leave it all in place but have it re-configured on CLIP to remove the items from the checksum. The lights will then function correctly without any of the units actually having to be removed.

Either way, you have a legal obligation to inform your insurance company that you have altered the vehicles specification as you may find yourself without insurance in the event of something *really* nasty happening.

is it not a bit ott that cars will fail on an illuminated dash? could be something of nothing after all. Good job I know a "reliable" tester :D

Well in that case I'm screwed. I have around 5 or 6 lights on as a result of the conversion and various mods i.e. harnesses and steering wheel.

The government doesn't want you on the road anymore, didn't you get the memo?

Vic, get your car to someone with a CLIP and most of that can be reolved for under £100. The biggest change with the new rules is the compulsory testing of SRS circuits but also all MIL's being checked for correct opperation. So called "Friendly" testers may get you a certificate but as above, you encounter a clued up or cocky Police officer and you're gonna get hit by a defect notice. Resistance is futile!

This - Did the same when replacing my knackered wheel, broke the squib and the serv light was permanently on and the horn was sounding randomly (v embarassing). Bought a new squib (slip ring) off ebay for like £20 fitted it and all was well. Put a nice picture guide up in the guides section to as it goes.

Well MOT day. Passed the MOT but lights still on, he tried clearing them 4 times but still stayed on.

Looks like i need it calibrating then?

Anybody know any renault specialist in Preston?

So if the sas is out and you put it on CLIP it can be recalibrated without having to piss around with the squib?
