i have owned my clio 16v now for over a year, and although i am happy with the performance of it I am not happy with the rest. When i bought the car i thought that the alarm system would work but as i read up on these things im told there should be another key or some sort of code to get it to work. the alarm is there, i can get it to make noise but i cant set it...HELP!!!!!

also i have been driving around a bit lately and my cluch has gone funny. its really hard to explain but it kind of goes soft and there is no resistance, which means i cant change gear. i sometimes pump it a few times then it comes back. on the worst cases the rachet/peddle just pings on me and i have no drive. very scary when you are driving along in traffic. any ideas. cheers.

mat

i have bought a new and new cable. it has only started doing it recently. i will investigate a bit more. but cheers anyway

my mates civic does that "ping" thing too.

the mechanic he took it too said it was something to do with the ratchet teeth?

i havent got a clue about the mechanics of cars, sorry

i had that on me old escort 1.3l. did if for years but never got no worse. gearbox did go eventually but dont think it was related.

i had no stater for quite an amusing 4 months too. ;)

well had the rachet change about 9 months ago then the cable aswell. it was working fine just how it should do. then i had a few bits done on it at a renault main dealer. then as i was driving home the pedal pinged on me causing me to stop. as i had experienced a brake cable snap i thought it was that. i took my foot off the pedal and it pinged back. then nothing for ages but now it is doing it quite often. thought it was the routing of the cable but that is fine. but it did only occur after the mechanic had done some work in the engine bay. its very weird cos there is no consistancy to it. but i have noticed it does it more often on long journeys and when it is hot.

cheers for the input guys.
