Vectra Sri Tapping

Hi again guys, As I said the other week I was looking at Astra's, well it works out better if I can my hands on a, 2.2 16V 4cylinder Sri 150bhp Vectra,
Been to look at one today, and it was very nice, however, there was a bolt missing on the heat shield to the exaust manifold, [which i am guessing isn't that serious] and when it starts there is a clicking noise for around 30 seconds, anyone any idead what that could be, I have been told it could be the heatshield, or the hydraulic tappets until warm and click until they have oil in them. Could it be anything else, it sounded like it came from the back of the engine back?

well the old read top vaux lumps did that from cold,not sure if the new ones should tho

not sure really,lifters were just a bit tappy till the oil got round properly,every ingle one i had and heard did it

yep
thats what i would say it is without looking at it- it can be mistaken for a tapping noise too.
have had a few problem with hydraulic lifters collapsing on the smaller ecotecs

I'd have to go with this. Although i'm not sure how closely related the 20XEV and 22XE are. IIRC, the 22XE has the exhaust on the rear and inlet on the front which is opposite to the 20XEV, not that this would prevent a stud snapping.

It depends on cost. They run a timing chain which doesn't require replacing if maintained IIRC so that should save costs.

I would as well have noon them the brake at 40,000 miles yes 40,000 the only think is that that car had run low on oil but only a little cost the bloke £1200 as well

DOn't know anything about them to be fair. But I know someone that has one and hes had nothing but trouble with it. My uncle had a boring standard vectra and had a fair few problems with that too, like engine management light coming on, and loss of power etc (can't remember what the fauilt was).

coolant temperature sensor and exhaust gas recirculation

also the camshaft sensor is also a known fault on them. when they go they put the rev limit down to 4krpm lol!
