very loud engine noise

hey guys im new on here, i dont own a clio im actually a jap driver (be kind) but my friend has a 172 cup 2004 ans it has been towed to my house for me to have a look at, the car runs fine but there is a very loud grinding noise comming from the cam belt area, the belt has been done by a previous owner and has had no problems until yesterday, the noise id very wierd and sounds kind of like a grinding or rubbing noise, it is very on off but also very consistant, it still happens all through the revs too, i am going to look at the cam belt tensioners and auxillary pulleys but is there anywhere else i should be looking, as i am very new to this engine (like a few hours of looking at it) and only really work on rotarys, i could probably get a video up tonight to help

any advice would be great
thanks

sounds like the aux belt idler could be failing. Avoid running the engine as if the aux belt goes it could take out the cambelt (unlikely as it may sound)

get all the bumper and slam panel off and have a good look at the tensioner and idler.
