Video Cam to PC. How do i do this?

How do i get a video from my video cam to a pc, say .avi or mpeg file.

The video cam takes mini dv tapes, what software do i need and how do i connect it up?

Get yourself a cheapo firewire card (or possibly you already have firewire onboard) and capture using windows movie maker

what he said ^^^^ unless u have a usb out for it, u need a DV firewire cable and prolly a car to hook it up to your pc.

theres usb out, DV out and A/V out.

and use the DV out from your camcorder. Windows Movie Maker should sort you out for some simple editing.

edit: that card on ebay comes with editing software too, wow!

aint got a spare card slot im ny shuttle but i have a firewire connection, what cable do i need, DV to firewire?

Do the firewire ports in your shuttle look like this ? ...

if so, you should need one of these...

got one of those on the back and a small one on the front,

he means you dont need one of those cards, just a cable from the pc to your camera

got the cable used windows movie maker, worked but the file size was gettin massive, what shall i use to make files with smaler sizes?

Windows MM allows you to alter the quality and/or final movie size.

and aquire files at a less size,
biggest is 176mb/m dv-avi
next one down is 3mb/m
