when my dephaser was ruined, the revs just dropped.. can't remember my 172.

seems about right, what is the set for? not seen that on before.

cruise control.. you get to the speed you want and press the button on sterring wheel.. then it sets.
speed limet.. hit a speed, press button and the car won't go past this limet unless you press the button under the accerator pedal

it should be dropping quicker than that from memory its been a while since i drove one though. check inlet manifold for air leaks, had the same problem when the TB gasket wasnt sealing properly on mine
