Warranty and non-Renault servicing

  172
If I get my car serviced by a Renault Specialist rather than a Renault stealer, will that effect my warranty at all?

I've got two years+ left on my warranty so don't want to lose that if I take it to a Renault specialist to get serviced, i.e. RSTuning.

Not sure how these things work at all.

Your warranty is valid BY LAW as long as you take it to a VAT paying garage (i.e. you get a legit receipt)

providing they use genuine renault parts & they are vat registered it won't be a problem - however some dealers are still a bit arsey about cars serviced by specialists under warranty.

Well, my warranty on the Impreza is void if I dont get it serviced at a Subaru dealer. Thats one of the reasons why warranty is offered, so they can make a bit of money back. Dont know about Renault, but when I had my 182 it was claimed that I had to take it to a dealer to keep in line with warranty.

As pointed out, it is a law, Subaru can't make demands like that.

I'm pretty sure they can, as its stated in my policy with them. However, rather than pissing them off and taking them up on their policy, I'd rather take it to them for services and not violate my policy. They do seem to know what they're doing, after all :)

Oh and thanks Steve ;)

Davey182 is right providing that it is a VAT registered garage, but they must used genuine renault parts. I asked the service manager as I work for Renault.

^^^ Knowsit . Its UK law not Subaru's law . It was introduced as it was deemed unfair on the competition i.e. independant garages that you " had " to have your car serviced at a franchised dealership .

As said . If its VAT registered and they use oe parts then your warranty will be fine .

Indeed, but for servicing et al, I'd rather take it there. The garages round these parts are f*cking useless.

Thats fair enough . I can understand your concerns , there are good and alot of totally shite garages out there who know jack s**t . At the end of the day its your car , your money and your decision .I'd probably be inclined to think the same if i had a Subaru .

Just steer clear of Nationwide Autocentres / Halfords everybody . They failed my 172 on its first MOT and recommeded nearly £500's worth of work needed carrying out . WTF . Plus when i went to pick my car up they were recommending something similar to another guy , you should have seen his jaw drop , it was a picture ,lol .

After i stripped the caliper down , cleaned it and greased it up it passed its MOT ;)

I take my car to Renault, for the simple reason if it needs anything under warranty there are no quibbles.

It's not hard to see why there are so many problems with cars that need warranty work doing ie steering wheels etc when a customer has never visited the network.

There are plenty of decent Subaru specialists you f**king pleb.

Why would I take it round the f*cking world/Uk to get a poxy service when I can take it to Subaru who dont charge a fortune surprisingly and also do the job properly? Meh.

Indeed, but every dealership is different. 90k service (cambelt + 45k service built in) through my local Subaru dealer : £600. Dealer down South : £1200.

I know where I'd be going. Subaru owners from London and the like travel up to the dealers further North and stay over while the car is serviced. They still save over £500 sometimes.
