Was In Renault Today....

my friend was in looking for a car today and we bumped into a brand new '55' 182 in inferno red. Now this is the car i was really wanting when i bought my ibiza, but i couldnt afford it at the time. It was priced at £12999 and i would be trading my ibiza in against it, (hopefully £2k) and paying the rest, which i think i could afford.

does this prices seem about right? how much would i be looking at paying for it a month over 4 years? any advice would be great!

too expensive in my opinion, pay £12,500 tops, I paid £11,800 in June o4 for a brand new metallic. no cup packs though.

mines on 3,5 year finance at £210 a month, i'd get a bank loan rather than car finance though so u have more freedom to change cars.

yeah good point mate, £210 seems like a good price i think.. surely i could knock £500 or so off the price?

if u have a trade in see what they'll offer on it, they might give u a good price on it just to get u buying.

u could have a trophy at the money if u wanted?

cheers for the replies, i didnt have my car with me, as my mate was wantin to get a trade in price on his, but will maybe head back in 2moro and crunch some numbers.. if i could get it down a bit and a good trade in price, think i will just go for it..

would they let me have a test drive without pre booking it?

They will let you have a test drive, try and get them down to at least 12.5k and the price you want for your seat

Good luck

  Golf GTI 1.8T
defo way too much, I know people that got the trophys down to £13500 when they came out.

i'll need to speak to the bank aswell, they are getting a mk1 172 in aswell, but i just loved that inferno one! do you think it would keep me happy for a few years while i was paying it back? or would it leave me wantin more?

it also comes with free servicing for life

yeah it maybe could buy me a trophy i suppose, but im not really that fussy about the suspension, would hate to have to replace them if the warrenty ran out!

  197-I love!!!
Try and get some quotes from Building Societies Etc. for a loan-They will be cheaper than Renault Finance.Good luck with it all.

Free Servicing?? Not bad.

I've had my Cup now for over 18 months, and it keeps putting a smile on my face.

I've tested a few new cars recently and none of them have tempted me away from the car.

yeah the deal they are running just now is, if you buy the car, you get free servicing on it as long as u have it, and that will roll over onto your next car if you buy it from them.. real bonus if you ask me.. so if i agreed to buy it tomorrow, i take it i wouldnt get it for around a week or so?

Probably about that long, but you'll need about that to sort your loan, insurance etc.

They'll have to tax it, assuming your getting that thrown in, and they'll need your insurance docs to do that.

Then there's the prep and PDI, they have to get the spotty youth with the sponge to add the swirl marks for you.

That servicing deal sounds good though, dealer prices vary but your looking at about £200 each, till you hit the BIG ones.

Good luck.

yeah they had the back wash room bit open, was full of there mechanics washing and polishing all the new clios! lol.. i go back offshore next week, but wouldnt mind not getting it till i next came home..

would i notice much of a difference from my ibiza (165bhp/0-60 in 7.8 on a gtech thing, not sure how accurate they are) or would there be little difference?

That servicing deal looks very good, and when you think about it you will pay £200 for a minor (12k and 24k) and then about £400 @ 36k. These are costs you wont have to pay in the future so in theory discounting the price of the car.

The Trophy is good but its not worth much more than the 182 with cup packs. For me the 182 with cup packs is the best of both worlds but obviously that is a personal preference. If you are prepared to pay 13.5k for a trophy then 13k sounds ok for the 182. The only reason to get the trophy is for the suspension and that it has better front seats (offset by the sunday market upohstery you have to put up with in the back) and the colour if you like the red. You have to remember the trophy loses a fair bit of kit over the std 182

I think you will notice a difference in terms the 182 has more power and less weight. 182 0-60 is mid 6's. I would imagine the handling is far better in the clio but the build and reliability better in the Seat

i didnt have a right look around it, but i think its a 182 with the cup packs, though i may be wrong.. think if i can knock him down to £12500 and get £2.5k for my ibiza (maybe optimistic) then think i will go for it!

what some good haggling techniques? or what should i ask to be included in the price? full tank?

trophy holds its value better mind

Not convinced that is true, a 172 cup holds it value no better than a 172

there are less 182 cups than trophys as well, but they wont hold their value better

yeah good point mate, though my ibiza is a 1998 model, and a new clio is surely more reliable than that. just put the car in for its MOT today aswell, reckon that will help my trade in price?

  tiTTy & SV650
trade ins mean nothing to them they just fire em off to auction if none of the staff want them.

mot would help u privately but the garage doesnt care imo.

the trade in will be the sweetner for it, you may be better privately or use the cupra forums to sell to someone in the market for your car

I think the Trophy will hold it's value better.

There are a lot less Trophys than Cups, and the 182 Cup didn't sell well because it wasn't a real cup (ok that's my opinion).

yeah im not really, lol, i will let you all know how it goes, my mates are trying to talk me out of buying a new car

  tiTTy & SV650
i wouldnt buy new again anytime soon myself, u can get the mk1 172 and have as much fun for half the price, or a mk2 for a little more.

if u work offshore I doubt u'll be driving that much so wont have to worry so much about it going wrong outwith warranty.

think of the trophy like a silver cup with air con and I think it will hold its value better.

I wouldn't pay more than 12k for it with the free servicing. Its a 55 plate, its now on 06, so it must be a pre registered car, so you'll be second owner on the V5, the dealer being the first. So it will be brand new but not on paper. So don't think your getting a bargin at £12995.

i'll take a trip in tomorrow, dont have anything better to do! and will take it out for a drive and see what sort of deal he offers me!

Very true, in effect its second hand.

I bought a megane a while back that was pre-registered, 18 mile on the clock and saved £3,000 on new price. And that was within the same reg year, this 1 LOOKS like its 6 months old already because of the '06 plate being out.

Not trying to put you off, just some info for when you are haggling.
