Washer Jets Trickling...

Do I need to change the windscreen washer motor?

Basically, this afternoon we've flushed out the fluid tank thing, made sure the jets aren't blocked and had a play with the actual motor. Its working slightly better now, but it still only trickles out fluid. Not even enough pressure to get onto the windscreen.

Any info would be great. If it is the case, I might aswell get one ordered from eurocarparts, whilst I know I can get the 25% off, making it less than a tenner for one.

You tried cutting down the bung inside? I did this when my motor was whirring but no water came out at all - got it working for the windscreen and headlight washers! Should be a guide on here somewhere which proves pretty useful

Had my washer pump changed a month or so ago. It made noise, just didn't achieve anything with it.

If you've run out of water in the bottle enough times you end up destroying the innards of the pump

For the sake of a tenner, I think id rather just replace it with new, rather than try the pikey fix.

I can't vouch for previous owners, but when I got the car last week, the washer fluid was full right to the brim.

Not sure about the ph.1, but on my ph.2 the spanner monkeys managed to wipe out my windscreen when getting the wiper arm off (to get the scuttle off, to get to the bottle & pump).

Get some WD40 on those arms and leave it for a looooooong time

LOL. It's the same set up I believe between ph1 and 2. We've had the panel off and the motor this afternoon. We had it off plenty of times though back when I had the Ph2 Flamer. Must have gone through that about 4-5times.

Getting the wipers off are a f**king pain though!! We couldn't get the passenger side off today, but we managed to squeeze under and get the pump out etc.

Whatever you do don't take it to Renault, they were going to charge me £180 +vat for changing the motor, that's excluding the cost! I laughed and did it myself, although I'd never want to do it again as the wipers are a pain to get off!

I've actually missed this kind of thing, even though its going to be killing my bank when everything breaks over winter

Hopefully this part will sort out my problem though!! I wouldn't have cared too much about it if it was summer.

To get the wiper arms off the easy way,
Remove the nut holding it to the spindle,
Turn it upside down so the flange/washer is facing upwards,
Put some vice grips on so your squashing the nut and arm together (make sense?)
Then tighten up vice grips and squeeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be warned though sometimes they are proper tight and require shed loads of pressure to get them to release!

That's the point.

If you've not had reason to take them off before, chances are those arms are going to be on there pretty hard.

Yeah fair point. The method i've said about has been by far the easiest one i've found anyway.

The garage left WD on the arm overnight and the bugger still didn't come off without excess force.

The wiper spindles are on a taper anyway so the wd40 struggles to penetrate properly. I've seen one removed by using a air hammer on the end of the spindle! Rough as you like, but it came off without damaging a single thing! Lol

When I was taking the wipers off I ended up standing on the engine pulling against the wiper lol. The image of the wiper coming loose quickly and me flying off the front of the car did cross my mind, but the thing still didn't move. A lot of wiggling and jiggling will get them off though. Also give it a tap with a small hammer as you're wiggling seams to work.

You can position the wiper on the windscreen and attack the pumps without removing the arm. It's a pain but that's what Fred at BTM had to do with my car a couple of weeks back as they weren't coming off!
