washers, wipers problem...

Hey, heres a strange one but don't ask how....

Wiper/washer stalk pull towards you - front wipers and rear washers work.

Using the rear wiper control on end of stalk - rear wipers and front washers work!

e.g. somehow the washers are working the wrong way round.

Could it be the switch wiring or is it a single pump with the pipes on the wrong way round, I am guessing one pump works for both front and rear washers? If so, where are the pipes split front/rear and what device changes the direction of flow.

The headlight washers don't appear to be working either but not sure if that is related.

Anybody with ideas, tests, where to look etc. thanks...

Sounds like issue with your pump, it's the same pump for front and rear windows, not sure why it would just decide to change though :S

Has someone been messing with youyr car the pips sound like they have beeen put together back to front.

You might be right about it!

Having looked into this more carefully and referring to an exploded diagram of the washer system, it looks like the pipes must have been reversed on the windscreen pump.
I have not picked up on this 'till recently as have not really used the washers, will have to take out the washer bottle and have a close look - proably later next week.
From what I have been able to find out, there are two washer pumps, each has two outlets
It could be the headlight washer pump is faulty/dead, so I'll probably fit a couple of new pumps in while I'm at it as they're not too expensive.
Can anyone confirm that both pumps are the same - e.g. with two outlets, bottom inlet and a top connector with two pins and connector is oblong in shape?
And how do the pump inlets seal into the bottle -push-fit?
If so, will order a couple of pumps ahead of takling things apart to save some time.

Pumps are cheap £14 from car parts place £35 from Renault if my memorys any good.

For the price vs the time to strip the car to get to the pumps I wouldn't bother buying new ones. My pump messes up ever now and again i have only once bought a replacement.

Am I right, the wipers arms have to come off, the scuttle and the bottle has to come out - will it come out without disturbing anything else e.g. the wiper mechanisms?

Do I need a puller for the arms - on splines or tapers?

yep wiper arms scuttle and bottle if you need to chnage the bottle.

No need to touch the wiper mechanisms.

As for needing a puller depends some can be wiggled out or wiggled with some oil other you need a puller. Idealy a puller isn't a bad idea.

Thanks Koi

But is that part illustrated in the link correct for the Clio 182 - e.g. with the 90 degree inlet, ones I have seen for the clio II have a straight inlet entering at the bottom, I have only seen Clio III 2006 on with that 90 deg. inlet.

I would like to be sure as I need to get the part before dismantling
