Water marks

  Bumder With A Buffer
Evertime it rains I am left with lots of white spots where the rain has been.

I re-waxed the car I think on Saturday (can't remember if it was saturday or sunday!) and it rained fo rthe first time today...car looks filthy all over again :(

Compared nesxt to a guys at work who never waxes his just washes it and he had no dry water marks.

WTF could be causing this?? Poor wax removal? Its hard to keep the Monaco looking nice for longer than a day at the moment :( If its not white residue marks from rain its dust, which incidently how the f**k does sooo much of it get on the rear of the car??! No-where else just the rear!

Might help if I put that mighten it

Wash with Chemical Guys Maxi Suds or Autoglym shampoo.

When and If I polish its poorboys SSR 2.5

Sealant is Chemical Guys Wet Mirror Finish

Wax is Dodo Juice Blue Velvet..Think the car has 2 layers on now.

Usually the process is

Foam (if necessary)
Wash
Rinse/dry
Polish (if Necessary)
Seal (If Necessary)
Wax..usually put a new coat on every month as DJ doesnt last very long.

I do top it up during the week with Megs Last Touch if needed and use it to help the drying process too.

I always find that with my girlfriends car (a China blue 206) so considering you use good products I'd put it down to the colour of the car showing them up!

Just a quick wipe over with a QD and you're fine

  BMW M135I
im in same boat but with a black 172, when it rains and the car hasnt moved what so ever, dirt has appeared in circles the size of rain drops

White dust?! I've got a DA on the way and plan to practise on my missus shutty fiesta..I wonder if I have some contamination and or products aren't being removed properly..Wax was definitely off though.

well if i wax my car etc and leave it all day then it rains at night.. the next day it sometimes has like whitey/brown marks/splodges all over it.

a just get a bit of qd on it and give it a wipe over

  Bumder With A Buffer
It comes off easily wiht QD just annoys me as others who dont look after there cars are fine :S

Want to try some new Wax actaully just becuase I dont like how long Blue Velvet lasts..just need to find something half decent and theres soooo much to chose from!

Swissvax onyx mate! Or BOS if your flush! U'll never look back! We'll convert u from DODO!

Mine show's up white spots too! All cars will, just darker colours are more noticable!

Collinite 476s is my choice.

You shouldn't really QD off rain dust unless you're 100% sure it won't damage your paint. Rain "dust" can be high in contaminates like sand and the like. Make sure it's very very fine.

Iirc there was a thread on DW by Dave G from carwashnwax about this something to do with waxes taking upto 48 hours to fully cure and if water gets on the surface it can produce white streaks. The joys of owning a dark coloured car

As for waxes everyone has a favourite and there is some much more to choose from now to say 5 years ago its a mineifeld lol Have you tried Supernatural you can buy a panel pot cheap and layer it on top of your current wax to improve durability

  Bumder With A Buffer
I have read that thread on DW actually.

Its hard to explain the water marks....its like a very thin film of white dust with the marks where water has been, these dust off easy enough as its so fine..Its not like polish dust from say using SRP or something is a lot thinner.

Some products leave a white dust like tec wax and AG super resin....
I use an applicator to apply but some people spray then straight on to the paintwork and it gathers in seams.

This is why spray sealents and anything else should be used carefully or sprayed on to the applicator/cloth, especially if they are to be removed once cured.

I remember detailing a car where the owner had tried to get rid of some bugs on the front with some bug and tar remover spray (the key being it was designed to stick on and get to work). b**ch to tidy that up from the grills, engine bay and other locations :S

So are you saying spray QD onto the MF cloth and wipe it on that way??

Edit my QD of choice is Megs LT by the way

Arse kisser ;) You know that's my QD of choice.

No not QD, just sealents, waxes, bug remover etc.

Re your original question this could be wax residue, acid rain hot spots (melts wax), fall out from being in an industrial area or dirt dripping down from a roof etc. Mine gets the same when I park at home as there are trees, garage roof ends etc. Work, looks crystal clear and beads like a beatch :)

  Bumder With A Buffer
My thinking was wax residue...wanting to get something else to try out as only ever used DJ Blue Velvet...decisions, decisions though isn't it!!!

I work in the middle of a farm and I do park kind of near a tree so it could be from there...but on the flip side where my "gaff" is is in the country...away from anywhere and the same still happens. f**king dark coloured cars :(

  Bumder With A Buffer
Supernatural..thought about it (bit expensive!)...R222 (or P21 or whatever they f**king called it years ago! :) ) is looking a good choice, in fact its in a basket over on CYC I just can't bring myself to press the purchase button ,with what else is in the basket (£60 on f**k all really!)

Onyx again might be a contender too as its not too expensive.

Sy gave perfectly acceptable reviews on the AG HD wax. Not for me, but perfectly acceptable choice.

Ha :) Buy, use, sell if necessary. Or find someone (like that DB character!) that will wax the car for you for a price/give you a sample to use. Make your decision that way.

What about watermarks the sun has dried on?

Washed mine today and had intended on giving it a once-over with SRP for the show in the morning.

Was overcast when I washed the car, then the sun came out pretty-dam strong and dried most suds in.
Been fighting with shampoo, QD, clay and MF's for hours to try get rid of them
- no joy getting the bus to summer condition.........yet lol

Any pointers folks?

Only real way to get rid of them is re-wash mate.
All you'll do is press harder to try and get rid and end up causing swirls.

I live in a hard water area so end up with the same problem if you dont remove water quick enough.

If you dont already so it, make sure you sheet water when you finish (use an open hose, not too powerful, and angle the hose less than 25degrees to the panel). This will grab as much water and pull it off so you have less to dry.

Also, you can try rinsing off afterwards (out of a watering can or similar) with a product such as Demon Shine.

Already had sheeted the rinse-water off exactly as above to try avoiding this lol

Oh well, back to the buckets it is then

Re-washed, dried with Megs Last Touch and a MF :)
Thought all was going good until the street lights came on - you can still see the dam things

Buffer required to get these out completely?
