Water Pump Failure

So my water pump failed epicly today and just need some advice.

Was going to take it to NWP sometime but need it doing quickly now so managed to get my busy uncle to agree to do it for me.

He said to get all the parts and bring it up, am I right in thinking all I need is an aux belt and water pump? Do I need any special tools?

Also, how long will it take roughly? For someone who is good with engines.

And finally, can it be done without removing bumper/lights etc.

Cheers
Mike

Its a fair few hours, maybe 6-7 something like that? You'll need the correct timing tools as the cam belt will have to be removed to change the water pump. Bumper off will make it a lot easier, and it's only a couple of mins to take it off so you may aswell.

Really? I have been assured I dont have to remove the cambelt to change it

Nope. Bumper off, wheel off, liner out, headlight out.

Accessory belt off, tensioner off.

Awkward job. I had mine done in the summer when the cambelt and accessory belt was done... I'm glad I did now. Took us 8 hours, all in.

So it is just aux belt i need to change, cambelt and all tensioners were done just over a year ago.

I'm pretty sure it's just he accessory belt you'll need to touch, but all I know is that we did both to mine. I think you can get to it without touching the timing belt.

Right, cheers I thought so.

Hopefully get it done tomorrow or Tuesday night. Shouldn't need any special tools then.

Yes aux belt will need to come off along with bumper o/s headlight o/s inner arch sheild.

No need to touch the cambelt, a bit of a pig to do took me about 5 hours on the floor

I put a jubilee around the tensioner spring which made it easier to remove and re-fit the belt, i also replace the aux belt even though it hadnt been on there that long.

Aux belt only needs touching, so no timing tools.

If it had an aux belt kit 12 months ago, just fit a new aux belt (genuine renault)

And get a genuine pump.

You do not need to take the bumper off or take the light out, all i ever remove is the arch liner and 2 x 13m bolts in the slam panel to lift it up an inch.

at a guess, 2 1/2 hours to fit it, bleed etc!

:)

Go for renault type D! Get it from your dealer or wherever when you get the pump!!

One bit of info for who ever does it, the bolts are stupid female torx things, be careful when undoing them, if they round off, there a b**ch!!!

Very poor idea.

Edit : Great minds! pmsl!

Which bolts, presume you mean the ones holding the pump on.

We did a non sport clio some time ago, same bolts?

male or female?? chaps?

How come they changed them? on the f7p they are 8mm bolt heads

But i agree take your time on these torx bolts !

IMO they're male torx (they do have a proper name, but i always forget it!) E7's from memory

E-Torx

I swapped mine in the engine bay the other week, didnt take too long but I dont have air-con or PAS. Just be careful you dont round any of the bolts off or you'll have some right fun trying to get them off

They are male bolts, you need a female socket! you get me?!

there a little b**ch, lol!

Oooh, i bought a really nice set of female and male torx bits the other week, finally be able to try them out.

Its sad when you look forward to using new tools

Got the parts today ready for tomorrow afternoon, ended up getting a valeo pump so should be decent.

Surprised how cheap the type d coolant was from the stealers too, about £13 for 5l

I don't know why I was always under the impression that the cam belt was needed to be done aswell, read it on here aswell!! Damn that's cheap coolant!

they've got that price wrong then LOL! that's less than trade (way less infact!)

Yesssss, love it when stuff like that happens :D

They've had enough of my money in the past to make up for it though

Checked the invoice and it says N/STK Coolant on it, with quantity 1. I'm thinking they have either billed me wrong or just billed me for 1l Should of stocked up.
